Before you pack
4 points
- Declare kite equipment as 'sporting equipment' with Air France customer service at least 48 hours before departure.
- Check the aircraft type for regional French domestic legs (ATR/Embraer) - the standard 300cm allowance may not apply and boards have been refused on small aircraft.
- Economy Light/Basic fares must add a baggage option separately - the free sporting-equipment allowance does not apply to bare Light/Basic fares.
- Keep the single kite bag under 23kg to stay within standard checked-bag limits and avoid Air France Cargo routing.
What riders report at the counter
2 reports
- One passenger had his boards refused at check-in for a Lorient-Paris regional flight: Air France told him the aircraft was too small to load them, and he flew without his equipment.
- Kitesurfers hit trouble with their baggage on the return leg in December 2025. Acceptance on a regional or return flight is not guaranteed even when the outbound was fine.
