What we collect
Short version: no accounts, no ads, no data sold, and analytics stay off until you say yes.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are actually useful. While the site is in its pre-launch period it loads on every visit and sets Google's usual analytics cookies; the consent banner, with every storage category starting denied until you press Accept, returns at launch. GA4 records the pages you view, roughly where you are (derived from your IP address, which Google truncates), your device and browser, and the site you arrived from. We look at that in aggregate only, we do not try to identify anyone, and we do not sell or share it with advertisers.
Alongside it we run our own analytics — Umami, self-hosted on our server and served from this domain, which counts page views without cookies, without any cross-site identifier and without storing personal data, so nothing about you reaches another company through it.
What we never collect
There are no user accounts, no logins, no newsletter, no comment forms and no advertising or retargeting scripts. We do not ask you for a name, an e-mail address, or a payment method anywhere on this site.
Things loaded from other companies
Some parts of the page are served by third parties, which means those companies see your IP address and browser when they serve them. They are: Google Fonts (typefaces), OpenFreeMap (map tiles), Wikimedia Commons (photos), and YouTube — in its no-cookie mode — for the videos embedded in the guides. The map library and its stylesheet are served from this site. Outbound forecast, school and airline links are ordinary links: once you follow one, that site's own privacy policy applies.
Photos
Destination and spot photos come from Wikimedia Commons under Creative Commons or public-domain licences. Each photo is shown with its author, its licence and a link back to the file page on Commons, as those licences require. If you are a photographer and something is credited wrongly, write to us and we will fix or remove it.
Photos riders upload
A rider with an account can attach up to 5 photos to a session, 4 MB each. Before anything leaves your browser the file is re-encoded, which removes the EXIF block — camera, serial number and, above all, GPS coordinates. The only thing kept is the date the shot was taken. Uploads are reviewed before they appear on a spot page.
You keep the copyright in your photo. By uploading it you allow Kite Insider to show it on the spot and destination pages and to reuse it on our social accounts, always credited to your handle. You can ask us to take it down at any time and we will remove it within 24 hours. Only upload photos you took yourself, and never photos in which someone is identifiable without their agreement.
Machine access
The atlas is also readable by an AI assistant through a Model Context Protocol endpoint at kiteinsider.com/mcp. It is read-only: five tools that answer with the same wind, season, rules, price, school and airline numbers the pages show, each with a link back to the page. It sets no cookies, has no accounts and no keys, and it logs nothing about you: the only thing it keeps is a per-minute request counter held in the server's memory, keyed by IP address, so one caller cannot swamp it — that counter is never written to disk and disappears within the minute. What riders say is not served there at all; a machine answer only says how many rider notes a page holds, and links the page.
Our data about places
Everything in the atlas — wind, rules, prices, schools — is researched from public sources and carries those sources on the page. It is about places and businesses, not about visitors to this site.
