812 places across 1505 spots in 104 countries — wind season, water, level and schools, every value sourced and dated.

That 812 is every place the atlas holds. 432 of them have a destination page of their own; the other 380 are held as a single spot and open on a spot page. They lie in 104 countries, 81 of which have a country guide written so far.

    Typical wind15–35 kntrade wind
    lagoonflat waterwavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedmid-rangebuzzing scene4x4 neededgear rentalWorld-class

9 spots19 schoolsIn season every month

Dakhla is a desert peninsula built almost entirely around one flat, endless lagoon and near-daily trade wind, which makes it one of the most reliable and forgiving learn-and-progress spots on earth — but it is remote (a 4-5 hour flight-plus-transfer from Europe, deep in politically disputed Western Sahara), and outside the kite camps and the small town center there is genuinely very little to do.

  2. San Francisco Bay, USASan Francisco BayUSA

    Windy days100%June, at Crissy Field
    Typical wind15–20 knthermal sea breeze
    beginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedexpensivebuzzing sceneno car neededgear rentalEstablished

6 spots8 schoolsIn season March to October

San Francisco Bay is really two separate kiting trips wearing one name: Crissy Field ("the Cityfront") is a world-class urban spot literally under the Golden Gate Bridge, walkable from downtown, cold and strong-currented, surrounded by shipping traffic and sailboats; Sherman Island is a bare, wind-thermal camping venue 60-plus miles inland in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta with no services on site.

  3. Kalpitiya, Sri LankaKalpitiyaSri Lanka

    Windy days100%June, at Kalpitiya Lagoon
    Typical wind18–30 knmonsoon
lagoonflat waterbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midbuzzing scenecar helpsgear rentalEstablished

7 spots15 schoolsIn season January, February, March, May, June, July, August, September, October and December

Kalpitiya is a dedicated, remote kite pilgrimage, not a beach-holiday base with a kite spot bolted on: a strip of fishing-village coast where a dozen mostly-European-run kite camps sit strung along the lagoon and there is almost nothing to eat, drink or do beyond them.

  4. Ilha do Guajiru, BrazilIlha do GuajiruBrazil

    Windy days100%August, at Almofala
    Typical wind18–28 kntrade wind
lagoonbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midsociablecar neededgear rentalLocal favourite

5 spots6 schoolsIn season June to February

Ilha do Guajiru is a barrier-island kite resort area in Ceará built almost entirely around a handful of pousadas sitting right on the spot - convenient because the wind works on any tide, but genuinely isolated, so most riders eat, sleep and socialize within their pousada's own orbit rather than exploring a town.

  5. Jericoacoara, BrazilJericoacoaraBrazil

    Windy days100%September, at Guriú
    Typical wind20–35 kntrade wind
    beginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedmid-rangebuzzing scene4x4 neededgear rentalWorld-class

2 spots8 schoolsIn season July to January

Jeri is a former fishing village turned bucket-list dune town: sand-only streets, no cars, a nightly sunset-dune ritual, forró until late, and a kite scene that has actually been pushed out of the main bay to nearby Preá and Guriú because the village beach is now reserved for swimmers and windsurfers.

  6. Paracas, PeruParacasPeru

    Windy days98%November, at Paracas
    Typical wind18–25 knthermal sea breeze
lagoonbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midbuzzing scenecar neededgear rentalEstablished

2 spots5 schoolsIn season August to May

Paracas is a desert bay 3.5-4 hours south of Lima that happens to have reliable wind - it is not a purpose-built kite village and has none of the kite-camp infrastructure or social scene you'd find in Mancora/Vichayito further north or in a place like Cabarete.

  7. Famara - Lanzarote, SpainFamara - LanzaroteSpain

Windy days87%July, at La Santa Lagoon
    Typical wind12–35 kntrade wind
    lagoonflat waterchoppywavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedmid-rangebuzzing scene4x4 neededgear rentalEstablished

5 spots8 schoolsIn season March to September

Caleta de Famara is a small, bohemian former fishing village under a dramatic 671m cliff line, built around surf, kite, and a genuinely low-key, wellness-leaning crowd rather than nightlife.

  8. Máncora, PeruMáncoraPeru

    Windy days97%July, at Lobitos
    Typical wind15–25 knthermal sea breeze
    wavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudgetbuzzing scenegear rentalEstablished

4 spots3 schoolsIn season May to January

Peru's flagship beach-resort town - a strip of hotels, bars and restaurants right on the Pan-American Highway with warm water year-round, part backpacker party town and part upscale weekend escape.

  9. Taíba, BrazilTaíbaBrazil

    Windy days100%September, at Taíba
    Typical wind18–32 kntrade wind
lagoonflat waterwavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midquietcar helpsgear rentalWorld-class

3 spots7 schoolsIn season July to February

A mellow beach village about 75km/1.5 hours from Fortaleza with a well-known kite lagoon plus a quieter satellite lagoon (Taibinha) for those who find the main one crowded - noticeably more relaxed in character than its close neighbors Paracuru and Cumbuco.

  10. North Coast (near Cap Malheureux), MauritiusNorth Coast (near Cap Malheureux)Mauritius

    Windy days88%September, at Poste Lafayette
    Typical wind15–25 kntrade wind
    lagoonbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudgetcar helpsgear rentalUnder the radar

6 spots6 schoolsIn season April to November

Cap Malheureux itself is a small fishing village famous for its red-roofed church, but the real base for staying, eating and going out is neighboring Grand Baie a short drive away; the north coast suits kiters who want full tourist infrastructure, a rental car to explore the island, and a reliably safe, easy destination rather than an edgy or remote one.

  11. Union Island / Grenadines, Saint Vincent and the GrenadinesUnion Island / GrenadinesSaint Vincent and the Grenadines

    Windy days95%June, at Union Island
    Typical wind15–25 kntrade wind
    lagoonflat waterchoppywavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbuzzing scenegear rental

4 spots4 schoolsIn season November to July

Union Island is a tiny (9 sq km), quiet, yacht-and-sailing-culture island at the southern end of the Grenadines chain, with its own small airport and easy boat access to the Tobago Cays Marine Park and neighboring islets.

  12. Costa Brava - Golf de Roses, SpainCosta Brava - Golf de RosesSpain

Windy days90%July, at Sant Pere Pescador
    Typical wind12–22 knthermal sea breeze
    beginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midquiet4x4 neededgear rentalWorld-class

3 spots4 schoolsIn season April to October

Sant Pere Pescador is the flagship kite beach of Europe's Golf de Roses, but the destination itself is really a campsite culture: kiters base themselves in one of the big beachfront campsites and kite camps that line the 7km beach rather than in a traditional town, so this suits van-lifers, campers and budget-to-mid travelers far more than anyone wanting hotel polish or club nightlife.

  13. Dakar - Ngor/Yoff, SenegalDakar - Ngor/YoffSenegal

    Windy days88%February, at Ngor
    Typical wind8–10 kntrade wind
    intermediateadvancedbudget to midquietcar helps

3 spots0 schoolsIn season November to June

Kiting here means kiting inside a working West African capital city, not a purpose-built beach resort: Ngor's tight bay sits between fishing pirogues, rocks and Ngor Island, with Yoff's wide beach and buttoned-up Almadies close by.

  14. Hurghada, EgyptHurghadaEgypt

    Windy days92%June, at Makadi Bay
    Typical wind15–22 knthermal sea breeze
lagoonflat waterchoppywavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midsociablecar neededgear rentalEstablished

4 spots11 schoolsIn season March to October

Hurghada is a sprawling, low-cost Red Sea resort city with genuine city-scale nightlife and every hotel budget imaginable, but its kite spots are lagoons and hotel-front launches scattered across town rather than one clean beach - most riders actually kite in or base themselves toward neighbouring El Gouna.

  15. Lüderitz, NamibiaLüderitzNamibia

    Windy days92%December, at Guano Bay
    Typical wind30–45 knthermal sea breeze
flat waterintermediateadvancedbudget to midbuzzing scene4x4 neededgear rentalWorld-class

2 spots1 schoolIn season August to March

Lüderitz is not a resort kite town, it's a windswept, foggy-then-sandy German colonial fishing and diamond port at the end of a lonely 350km road, and most of the world only cares about it because of the annual Speed Challenge dug into its lagoon.

  16. Mahé, SeychellesMahéSeychelles

Windy days95%September, at North East Point
    Typical wind12–22 kntrade wind
    lagoonflat waterchoppywavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedexpensivebuzzing scenecar neededgear rental

7 spots2 schoolsIn season January, February, March, May, June, July, August, September, November and December

Mahé is the Seychelles' main island and flight gateway - a mountainous, forested island ringed with postcard granite-boulder beaches, where kiting is a bonus to a luxury or honeymoon holiday rather than the reason people fly in.

  17. Noumea, New CaledoniaNoumeaNew Caledonia

    Windy days82%September, at Ilot Signal
    Typical wind15–25 kntrade wind
    flat waterwavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedexpensivebuzzing scenecar helpsgear rentalEstablished

4 spots2 schoolsIn season every month

Noumea is a small, very French Pacific city where the kite spot (Ilot Maitre) sits inside a reef-protected lagoon a short boat ride from the Anse Vata beach strip you'll actually be based in - so unlike most tropical kite destinations, town and spot are the same trip, not a compromise.

  18. Pacasmayo, PeruPacasmayoPeru

    Windy days100%May, at Pacasmayo
    Typical wind12–25 knthermal sea breeze
    wavesintermediateadvancedbudgetquietgear rentalLocal favourite

1 spot3 schoolsIn season every month

A small, sleepy former port town built around a 19th-century pier and 'El Faro' - one of the longest rideable waves on Earth - drawing a dedicated crowd of surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers rather than mass tourism.

  19. Ceará — Parajuru to Fortim, BrazilCeará — Parajuru to FortimBrazilnewly charted

3 spots4 schoolsIn season March to November

El Gouna is a purpose-built, privately developed lagoon resort town north of Hurghada - manicured, gated-feeling, and effectively Egypt's most polished kite destination.

    Windy days68%July, at Lyle, WA
    Typical wind13–30 knthermal sea breeze
    choppybeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedexpensivequietcar neededgear rentalEstablished

8 spots6 schoolsIn season May to October

Hood River is the Columbia River Gorge's wind-sports capital - a real small town with breweries, restaurants and a walkable Main Street, not just a launch site, built up over roughly 40 years of windsurfing-then-kiteboarding tourism.

  22. Lagoinha, BrazilLagoinhaBrazil

    Windy days98%September, at Lagoinha
    Typical wind18–30 kntrade wind
beginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudget to midbuzzing scene4x4 neededgear rentalLocal favourite

1 spot2 schoolsIn season July to December

A small, sleepy half-moon cove village 120km from Fortaleza that still feels undiscovered compared to Cumbuco or Jeri - a handful of pousadas, one lagoon, big dunes and a cliff, and not much else.

  23. Marsa Alam, EgyptMarsa AlamEgypt

Windy days95%September, at Marsa Alam North Channel
    Typical wind12–30 knthermal sea breeze
    choppywavesbeginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedmid-rangequietno car neededgear rentalLocal favourite

2 spots3 schoolsIn season every month

Marsa Alam is the remote, far-southern Red Sea alternative to Hurghada - Wadi Lahami/Hamata, 140km further south again, is a dedicated, rider-capped kite camp reached by a long desert transfer, offering near-guaranteed wind and none of the city distractions.

  24. South Padre Island, USASouth Padre IslandUSA

    Windy days85%April, at North Flats

3 spots4 schoolsIn season May to October

3 spots6 schoolsIn season September to April

11 spots6 schoolsIn season every month

Western Algarve is an easy, low-drama European kite trip: Ria de Alvor is one of the safest, flattest lagoons in Europe to learn on, and Lagos gives you a proper resort town with beaches, history and nightlife bolted on.

    beginner-friendlyintermediateadvancedbudgetbuzzing scenecar neededgear rental

1 spot4 schoolsIn season October to April

This is a remote high-desert reservoir in the Andean foothills of San Juan, not a beach resort - you come for near-guaranteed thermal wind and mirror-flat morning water framed by bare mountains, and everything else (food, nightlife, infrastructure) is basic and thin outside the short summer/Easter peak.

  30. Mui Ne, VietnamMui NeVietnam

This cluster is really the Pipa / Tibau do Sul stretch of the Rio Grande do Norte coast near Natal: a cliff-and-lagoon tourist town with a lively pedestrian strip at night, wrapped around wave and mixed lagoon/ocean kite spots that lean intermediate-to-expert rather than raw beginner.

St. Peter-Ording is Germany's biggest kite beach and the birthplace of the country's kitesurf competition scene - it hosted the Kitesurf World Cup from 2006 to 2015, billed at the time as the largest kitesurf event in the world with over 130,000 spectators a year, before the event relocated to Fehmarn in 2016.

Brouwersdam is a working Delta Works dyke that happens to be the Netherlands' number-one kite spot: park the car on the dam road, rig on the flat, tideless Grevelingenmeer lake side or the tidal North Sea side depending on wind direction, and ride.

Elafonisi is a stunning, shallow, warm lagoon on a protected nature reserve at the far southwest tip of Crete - great to kite, but it exists first as a mass-tourism beach beauty spot, so you share the water and sand with day-tripper coach tours from Chania and Rethymno.

Fuwairit is not a wild beach town — since October 2022 it is essentially one purpose-built Hilton resort (Fuwairit Kite Beach, Tapestry Collection) sitting on a fenced lagoon on Qatar's empty northern coast, built from scratch by Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways as a 'kiteboarding Disneyland.

    2 spots5 schoolsNo season recorded

Two well-regarded North Finistere spots on the wild, lighthouse-studded Pays des Abers coast, about 25 minutes from Brest — Trois Moutons is a big year-round sandy beach, and Sainte-Marguerite has a signature high-tide lagoon (La Bassine) that turns flat and standing-depth for a few hours around big tides.

Dahab is a former Bedouin fishing village turned scruffy, laid-back backpacker-diver-kiter town on Sinai's Red Sea coast - closer in spirit to a hippie beach town than a polished resort.

This is a capital-city kite base, not a beach town - you're riding Dublin Bay spots between museums, live-music pubs, and a serious restaurant scene, with the DART commuter train making a car largely unnecessary for city-based spots.

A quiet, official 'Station Kid'/Famille Plus family beach resort on the Vendée coast with 13km of sandy beach either side of town - low-key and rural rather than lively, best for a calm family-oriented base rather than nightlife or culture.

North Male Atoll splits into two very different trips: postcard resort islands (Sheraton Full Moon at Furanafushi, Meeru) reached by fast speedboat or seaplane, and low-key local islands like Thulusdhoo and Himmafushi where kiters bunk in guesthouses beside a famous surf break.
