Ada Foah, a weekend trip from Accra at the Volta River estuary, kites its lagoon and wetland edges June through August.

Kokrobite, the bohemian surf town near Accra, runs its beach-break kite activity December through February alongside a backpacker scene, while Anomabo further along the coast has surf but no documented kite window.

It's a small, split-season scene better suited to riders already in the country than a dedicated kite trip.

US passportRequires an e-Visa applied for online in advance; visa-on-arrival for US citizens was discontinued as part of the May 2026 reform. Single-entry tourist e-Visa costs USD 150, multiple-entry USD 200; approval typically arrives within 5-10 working days (2026).

Where records disagree

  • Visa-on-arrival availability: 2025-dated GIS guides describe visa-on-arrival as available, while later 2026 immigration-law reporting states it was discontinued effective 25 May 2026 in favor of a mandatory e-Visa/ETA system for all non-ECOWAS nationals. Given the current date, the e-Visa-only rule is likely now in force, but confirm directly at gis.gov.gh before travel.
  • MoMo (mobile money) foreigner usability: one source suggests tourists can register with just a local SIM + ID + kiosk deposit; another says tourists typically cannot use MoMo due to in-person MTN-office registration requirements. Both were found in the same search result set and were not reconciled.
