When it fills in

There is no thermal clock here. Wind comes with a system, Bora from the NE or Scirocco from the SE, and can blow overnight or fade mid-afternoon, so the synoptic chart decides the session rather than the hour of the day.

La Sentina is the beach at the south end of San Benedetto del Tronto, past Porto d'Ascoli, in front of the Tronto river mouth and beside the last breakwater. Surfers, windsurfers and kiters all use it, and what it is known for is big NE storm seas rather than an afternoon thermal.
The bottom is mixed sand and stones and the water quality is rated fair. Kiting has a local home in ASD Sentina Kite Beach, which appears in the town's list of sports clubs, and a Sentina Kite Beach weather station sits on the spot.
Everything else is thin: no published safe kiting directions as distinct from the surfable ones, no best months, no parking detail, no confirmed rescue cover. Until a local tells you otherwise, treat it as intermediate to advanced, with a river mouth, stones and breakwaters in play.
Summer air runs around 30 C, winter is properly cold with the NE dominant, and the sea goes from about 26.7 C in late summer to 12.4 C in winter.

Wave and strong-wind river-mouth spot; nothing on record supports a regular thermal kite beach.
Winter bites here, with the NE dominant, and summer air sits around 30 C. No best-month list is published.

Strength

No knot figure is published for this spot.

Direction to shore

The beach faces east-north-east. The NE that builds the storm sea is straight onshore, E and SE arrive onshore to side-onshore, S runs along the sand and N blows down the beach past the end of the last breakwater.Derived from the coastline orientation rather than from a local rider, and the Tronto mouth and the groyne bend the flow in the corner where everyone rigs.

Dominant direction

NE, E, SE, S and N for sea/swell conditions

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

Nothing dedicated. The kite association on this beach runs as a membership club with its own instructors, so cover exists only when someone from it is on site; there is no published rescue boat or patrol.
Sea emergencies go to the Coast Guard on 1530, and San Benedetto del Tronto has its own port command a couple of kilometres up the seafront.

Launch

Beach south of Porto d'Ascoli at San Benedetto del Tronto, in front of the Tronto river mouth and next to the last breakwater.

Rules & access
2022 Porto San Giorgio/San Benedetto maritime diporto regulation permits kitesurfing only in daylight with favourable meteo-marine conditions and requires compliance with bathing-safety ordinances and authorized launch corridors through bathing zones.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Respect a big NE forecast: the spot works on large NE storm seas, and the last breakwater is right beside you.
  • Walk the access and find the Riserva Naturale Sentina boundary before you rig near the river mouth.
  • Do not count on a summer launch unless a marked corridor is open; the bathing ordinance applies here.
  • Expect stones as well as sand on the bottom when you walk in or come back through the shorebreak.
  • Ask ASD Sentina Kite Beach whether anyone is on the water before riding alone.
  • The club on the beach is a membership association, not a public launch: mail segreteria@sentinakitebeach.com or call +39 347 9251976 before you turn up with kit.
