Good to know before you go3
- Varcaturo's beach-club strip has documented building-code and infrastructure problems — don't expect a polished resort finish.
- Castel Volturno carries a genuinely troubled recent history alongside real recent improvement efforts — worth researching current conditions before booking there specifically.
- The Marina di Varcaturo beach looks out toward Ischia and Procida but a direct ferry connection from this stretch of coast was not confirmed — Pozzuoli, further north, is the usual island-ferry port for the area.
The spots
Fusaro / Lido Fusaro
Fusaro sits on the Campania coast at Torregaveta, west of Pozzuoli, about 20 km from Naples.

The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 11.1 kt in November, the strongest month it models for this spot.
Fusaro / Lido Fusaro: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Fusaro / Lido Fusaro
The water is shallow off the sand, with chop and small waves, and tide is not a factor. Ponente comes in side-onshore and Libeccio onshore from the south-west, while Scirocco from the south-east is side-offshore, which is the direction to think twice about. Wind runs 10-30 knots when it runs. The beach is short in one description and long with plenty of room in another, and nobody has settled it. Kitesurfing is forbidden in summer, with no year given for that rule, and the 2011 Guardia Costiera ordinance for the Naples area requires authorized 300 m launch corridors and a body drag or minimum speed out to 150 m from shore. Whether a corridor is actually authorized at this beach now is unconfirmed. Come outside the bathing season and ask before you rig.
Getting on the water
Sandy beach north of Torregaveta and Lido Fusaro. Its size is disputed, described both as a long beach with medium size and plenty of space, and as short.
If it goes wrong
No kite-specific rescue. Through the bathing season the body managing a free beach must run a lifeguard service, so cover exists in summer, but it is aimed at swimmers inside the buoys in the same hours when you are not allowed to ride there. Offshore, the coastguard is 1530, free to call, or 112.
Rules and access
2025: the bathing-safety ordinance for the Naples maritime district, number 54 of 9 May 2025, governs this coast. Where the local managing body sets no dates, the bathing season runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September. Inside the zone reserved to bathers, 200 m out from a beach and 100 m off rocky coast, no craft may navigate between 07:00 and 20:00, with windsurf and kitesurf named explicitly. That is the summer closure riders talk about. Landing a kite in the water in front of a licensed beach concession is forbidden outright; on free beach you may land only when nobody is in the landing area; and riding must stay 60 m clear of bathers and of moving or moored boats. Bathing inside a marked launch corridor is banned year round. The ordinance prints 112 and the free coastguard line 1530 as the emergency numbers. An earlier 2011 ordinance for the Naples area set 300 m authorized launch and landing corridors with body drag or minimum speed out to 150 m; whether such a corridor is currently authorized at this beach is unconfirmed.
Varcaturo
Varcaturo is the Campania home spot: an open sandy beach on the Litorale Domitio by Lago Patria and Giugliano, close enough for a quick session out of Naples or Caserta.

Varcaturo: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Varcaturo
Do not expect flat water. It is chop and irregular, unformed small to medium waves, over a very irregular seabed. The wind comes side-onshore and is often gusty, and the best period is September to June. From June through September the beach is packed with bathers and kiting is discouraged. There is no dedicated kite zone here, which is the real limitation: the one recognized kite beach on this coast, with Coast Guard recognition and an authorized corridor, is Don Pablo near Ischitella. Water quality is the other catch, reportedly dirty and at times polluted depending on the tide.
Getting on the water
Wide fine-sand beach on the Litorale Domitio, parking right by the sand, immediate access. Riders park at Lido Onda del Mare in winter and Lido Miramare in summer; some lidos stay open through the cold months with a wash area and changing rooms, and there is food and a shower on the beach. No dedicated kite beach and no marked zone at Varcaturo. Don Pablo, at Castel Volturno further up the same coast, is the one kite beach on the Litorale Domitio.
If it goes wrong
Nothing on the beach: no lifeguard, no rescue boat, no club watching the water at Varcaturo. Sea emergencies go to the Guardia Costiera on 1530. The supervised alternative is Don Pablo, Via Ruggero Leoncavallo, Castel Volturno, which keeps a rescue boat, an authorized launch corridor, a compressor, hot and cold showers and its own weather station.
Rules and access
A 2011 Guardia Costiera ordinance for the Naples area requires kite-surf departures and landings through authorized 300 m corridors, prohibits bathing inside those corridors, and requires kiters to leave the corridor by body drag or minimum speed until 150 m from shore. Varcaturo itself has no dedicated kite beach or launch corridor. Don Pablo, on the same Litorale Domitio coast near Ischitella/Castel Volturno, is the coast's one recognized kite beach, with Coast Guard recognition and an authorized launch corridor. In practice Varcaturo is kited mainly outside the bathing-restriction period, when the open beach can be used without a corridor requirement.
Ischitella / Lido Don Pablo
Ischitella sits on the Litorale Domitio in Campania, and Lido Don Pablo is the only kite beach on that stretch: the address is SS Domitiana km 38.900, in Castel Volturno.

Ischitella / Lido Don Pablo: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Ischitella / Lido Don Pablo
Campania kiters treat this and Varcaturo as their home water. The wind is mostly thermal, side-onshore and often gusty, and the season runs September to June rather than through the middle of summer. Water goes flat to chop to small or medium waves, none of them well formed, over a seabed that changes depth without warning. Don Pablo and Kitesurf Napoli run the base here with IKO/CSEN teaching, a launch corridor, a marked kite zone and a rescue boat. Summer is the awkward part: bathing-season access depends on that corridor and on local authorization, and the current Castel Volturno ordinance text is unconfirmed, so call before you drive down. A beginner can start here, but the gusts and the bottom mean it should be with someone watching.
Getting on the water
Lido Don Pablo is the Kitesurf Napoli base at Ischitella and the only kite beach on the Litorale Domitio. The beach is sandy, long and wide. On site: parking, a compressor, hot and cold showers, changing rooms, rental, a kite repair service, a bar and a restaurant. The address is given two ways, as SS Domitiana km 38.900 and as Via Ruggero Leoncavallo, both in Castel Volturno.
If it goes wrong
The base on the beach runs a rescue boat and keeps its own weather station, alongside a launch corridor and a marked kite zone on the same sand. Contact goes through the lido's WhatsApp lines, +39 366 975 7583 and +39 376 191 2855. No callout fee is published.
Rules and access
2026: Kitesurf Napoli/Lido Don Pablo is recognized by the local Coast Guard and has a launch corridor and insurance, with a designated kite zone among its services. A spot-specific municipal or Guardia Costiera ordinance for Castel Volturno is unconfirmed.

What riders say
9 recurring claims
Summer is the closed season here. Kiting is off while the beaches are in bathing use, and the working calendar runs roughly September to June.
consensus×3 riders
Sessions people actually log here are 16 to 18 knots in a wetsuit, in October or March — modest numbers, not a wind machine.
majority×3 riders
Access is unusually easy for a home-spot run: the train reaches Torregaveta and the Naples ring road puts the Domitio beaches within about twenty kilometres of the city.
majority×3 riders
The wind here is side-onshore and gusty rather than clean, and the seabed is uneven enough that the chop never lines up.
majority×2 riders
Which beach club you park at changes with the season — one lido in winter, another in summer — and the parking itself is right behind the sand.
limited×1 rider
The hazards named at Varcaturo are strong currents, structures on the beach and big waves, plus, in season, swimmers and horse-drawn carts on the sand.
limited×1 rider
Fusaro is the short beach of the run and takes anyone from beginner to expert, with the Fusaro lake canals emptying into the sea right at the launch.

The bay at Torregaveta, at the end of the Cumana line, is a small sheltered pocket under a rock face with a long concrete pier on the other side — a different animal from the open Domitio sand.
limited×1 rider
Water quality is the sore point and it is not agreed on: clean along the Domitio beaches, and poor to almost polluted at Varcaturo depending on the tide.
