Fusaro sits on the Campania coast at Torregaveta, west of Pozzuoli, about 20 km from Naples. The water is shallow off the sand, with chop and small waves, and tide is not a factor. Ponente comes in side-onshore and Libeccio onshore from the south-west, while Scirocco from the south-east is side-offshore, which is the direction to think twice about.
Wind runs 10-30 knots when it runs. The beach is short in one description and long with plenty of room in another, and nobody has settled it.
Kitesurfing is forbidden in summer, with no year given for that rule, and the 2011 Guardia Costiera ordinance for the Naples area requires authorized 300 m launch corridors and a body drag or minimum speed out to 150 m from shore. Whether a corridor is actually authorized at this beach now is unconfirmed. Come outside the bathing season and ask before you rig.

March to November is the fair-weather stretch and April to September the useful window. What shapes the practical season is the bathing rule rather than the wind: through the bathing season, which runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September where no local body sets its own dates, no kite may navigate inside 200 m of the sand between 07:00 and 20:00.

The quiver, in words

Indicative for a 75-85 kg rider, worked from the 10-30 kt local range rather than measured on this beach: 12 m at the bottom of it, 9 m around 20 kt, 7 m at 25-30 kt. In side-offshore Scirocco take the smaller of any two options.

Direction to shore

W/Ponente side-onshore, S side-shore, SE/Scirocco side-offshore, SW/Libeccio onshore

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

No kite-specific rescue. Through the bathing season the body managing a free beach must run a lifeguard service, so cover exists in summer, but it is aimed at swimmers inside the buoys in the same hours when you are not allowed to ride there. Offshore, the coastguard is 1530, free to call, or 112.

Launch

Sandy beach north of Torregaveta and Lido Fusaro. Its size is disputed, described both as a long beach with medium size and plenty of space, and as short.

Hazards riders report 10

  • short beach
  • Summer kitesurf ban, year unconfirmed.
  • Short beach, reportedly.
  • side-offshore Scirocco
  • possible conflicts with bathing-season restrictions
  • Side-offshore Scirocco from the south-east
  • Beach length is disputed, short in one account and long with plenty of room in another; assume tight until you see it
  • Through the bathing season, from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September, the first 200 m of water is closed to kites between 07:00 and 20:00
  • Chop and small waves over a shallow bottom
  • Licensed beach concessions: landing in the water in front of a lido is forbidden
Rules & access
2025: the bathing-safety ordinance for the Naples maritime district, number 54 of 9 May 2025, governs this coast. Where the local managing body sets no dates, the bathing season runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September. Inside the zone reserved to bathers, 200 m out from a beach and 100 m off rocky coast, no craft may navigate between 07:00 and 20:00, with windsurf and kitesurf named explicitly. That is the summer closure riders talk about. Landing a kite in the water in front of a licensed beach concession is forbidden outright; on free beach you may land only when nobody is in the landing area; and riding must stay 60 m clear of bathers and of moving or moored boats. Bathing inside a marked launch corridor is banned year round. The ordinance prints 112 and the free coastguard line 1530 as the emergency numbers. An earlier 2011 ordinance for the Naples area set 300 m authorized launch and landing corridors with body drag or minimum speed out to 150 m; whether such a corridor is currently authorized at this beach is unconfirmed.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ask locally about the summer ban before you drive out; the dates and the legal basis are both unclear.
  • Treat SE Scirocco as side-offshore here and stay off it without cover.
  • Give yourself extra room on the sand, because the launch is reported short.
  • If a corridor is marked, launch and land through it and body drag out to 150 m before you ride.
  • Check the bathing-season dates for this stretch before you drive out. With no local dates set they run from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September, and inside them the first 200 m of water is closed to kites from 07:00 to 20:00.
  • Land on free sand and only when the landing area is clear. The water in front of a licensed lido is off limits for landing.
  • Keep 60 m between you and any swimmer or boat once you are riding.
