Baia Domizia is a long sand beach on the litorale domitio, between Cellole, Sessa Aurunca and Mondragone in the Gulf of Gaeta. The water is shallow and tide independent, with small waves rather than lagoon flat, and nothing in it to hit. The wind is the hole in this record.
No dominant direction has been published for the beach, no local wind name, and no normal knot range; all that is on record is April to September as the best months, with useful weather from March to November.
Come between June and August and the wind is the second problem, because the sand is packed with resort and camping traffic, worst in July and August, and there is a concrete risk on the beach itself. Access is the other gap: the Guardia Costiera Pozzuoli Ordinanza di Sicurezza Balneare n.
42 of 9 May 2025 requires launch and landing corridors for kitesurf, as well as windsurf and surf, to follow the ordinance, but no Baia Domizia or Cellole corridor has been confirmed for 2026. Check the current Capitaneria di Porto di Pozzuoli and Comune di Cellole rules before rigging in bathing season. Naples is the practical airport, about 65 km up the coast.

Typical strength

Modelled monthly means run about 12 kt in January and February, 10-11 kt in March, November and December, and 7-8 kt from May through September; 227 days a year touch 12 kt or more. Those are all-hours averages over the sea point, not session readings, and nothing is measured on the beach itself.

Nobody has published a dominant direction, a measured reliability figure or a kiteable wind range for this beach.
April through September are the best months. Useful weather runs March to November, and a wetsuit is wanted outside that.

The quiver, in words

No local size table exists. Indicative for a 75-85 kg rider on a twin-tip: 12-15 m covers the ordinary 10-14 kt day, 9-11 m on the stronger winter and shoulder-season fronts that reach 18-22 kt, and a foil or a 17 m if you want to ride the summer light end at all.Derived from the monthly wind averages, not from riders on the sand.

Direction to shore

The beach runs northwest to southeast and faces southwest. A southwest wind arrives straight onshore, west and west-northwest come in cross-onshore, and a northwest wind runs side-shore down the sand. Anything from the northeast or east quadrant is offshore over the dunes and the pine forest.Read off the coastline; no local sector has been published and nobody has stated which of these actually delivers here.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Sand shelving out gently; how far you can walk has never been measured. Through the bathing season a line of white floats marks the 1.60 m safe-water limit wherever a beach carries lifeguard cover, which is the practical edge of standing depth.A slowly shelving sand bottom of this kind digs shifting holes under waves and current, so the depth on one day is not the depth on the next.

Tides

Tide independent.

Temperature

Summer About 26-27 C in August from sea-temperature datasets for Baia Domizia / nearby Tyrrhenian coast.

Winter About 12-14 C in February from sea-temperature datasets for Baia Domizia.

Wetsuit

Shorts in summer, a shorty in spring and fall, a normal full wetsuit in winter. Outside the March-November warm period you want a suit.

15–28°C water
Long open-sea sand beach in the Gulf of Gaeta with small waves. Clean, shallow water with nothing in it to hit; the concrete risk is on the beach.

Your level

This record marks the beach for every ability. In practice, summer crowding and unconfirmed bathing-season access make an independent beginner launch harder than the shallow water suggests.

Rescue

No kite-specific rescue. Through the bathing season, third Saturday of May to third Sunday of September, staffed beaches must hold lifeguard cover continuously across the bathing hours the operator sets, minimum 09:00 to 19:00, with a rescue craft kept at the water's edge; where a rescue jet-ski is used it has to be a three-seater marked SALVATAGGIO, crewed by two people with lifesaving qualifications and carrying a quick-release stretcher.
Outside those months, and on beach sections with no service, there is nothing. A 2020 beach-safety project at Baia Domizia put lifeguard posts on the free and private beaches with radio contact, a rescue watercraft and a monitoring drone; whether it still runs is unconfirmed.
Sea emergencies go to the free Guardia Costiera line 1530; the Pozzuoli office is on 081 5261160, general emergencies 112.

Launch

Hazards riders report 11

  • summer beach users
  • concrete beach risk reported
  • Heavy beach-user pressure in June, July and August.
  • Packed beaches during summer.
  • Concrete beach risk reported.
  • No current spot-specific kite corridor or municipal kite rule is confirmed for Baia Domizia.
  • Through high season the beach is shared with resort and camping traffic as well as ordinary bathers.
  • Bathing season, roughly late May to late September: the 200 m strip off the shoreline is closed to kite transit, and only a marked corridor crosses it.
  • Gently shelving sand digs shifting holes under waves and current, so a depth you walked yesterday may not be there today.
  • Dark volcanic sand off Roccamonfina, hot underfoot at midday in summer.
  • No current spot-specific kite corridor is confirmed for Baia Domizia.
Rules & access
  • 2025: Ordinanza di Sicurezza Balneare n. 42/2025 of the Ufficio Circondariale Marittimo di Pozzuoli, in force from 9 May 2025 and replacing n. 69/2024, covers the coast from the mouth of the Garigliano down to Bagnoli and names Cellole and Sessa Aurunca among the comuni it applies to, so Baia Domizia falls under it. Through the bathing season the 200 m strip out from the shoreline is reserved exclusively for bathing: transit, stopping, launching and landing of kitesurf inside it is forbidden except through a signposted launch corridor. Further out, Ordinanza n. 62/2013 of the Compartimento marittimo di Napoli bans navigation of kitesurf within 300 m of beaches. Corridors are 20 m wide, or 10 m minimum where the concession frontage is narrower, their sides marked by yellow floats on a floating line at intervals of no more than 50 m, with two larger white-flagged floats at the seaward mouth; they are public-use even when a beach club builds and maintains them, and a sign on the sand names who is responsible. Bathing season, for safety purposes, runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September.
  • 2026: no corridor specific to Baia Domizia or Cellole has been confirmed, so look for the yellow float line and the corridor sign on the sand before rigging, and check with the Comune di Cellole and the local Guardia Costiera office.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • In July and August, sort the beach before the kite: look for the signs, the corridors and lifeguard instructions before you pump.
  • Ask a local school or a rider on the sand which way the wind actually works here, because no public source gives a direction.
  • Keep clear of the concrete risk on the beach when you land.
  • Shorts in summer, a shorty in spring and fall, a full wetsuit outside the March to November warm period.
  • Cross the bathing strip only through a marked corridor: yellow floats on a line down each side, two white-flagged floats at the seaward end, a sign on the sand naming who maintains it.
  • Winter and the shoulder months carry the wind here. July and August are the weakest for it and the worst for crowds.
  • Save 1530 before you go out; it is the free Guardia Costiera sea-rescue line and reaches the Pozzuoli office that covers this stretch.
