Capo Miseno sits at the Bacoli end of the Phlegraean coast west of Naples, and it is a sea spot rather than a school beach. The entry is shallow, the water chops up, the waves stay small to medium, and tide does not come into it. WNW and ESE are the sideshore directions to look for.
Intermediate and expert riders get something out of it; anyone still fighting to stay upwind should learn elsewhere, because there is a wave breaker in the water and cliffs at the east end to be pushed onto. In June, July and August the beach fills with bathers, and that decides more sessions here than the forecast does.
No local knot range has ever been published, so you pick kite size off the general forecast and off what you can see on the water. The only kite ordinance that turns up is Ordinanza 34/2011 for the Ancona maritime district, which has nothing to do with Bacoli, so the rules at this beach stay unconfirmed.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

+39 081 5261160

No lifeguard post belongs to this beach. Under the 2025 Pozzuoli ordinance cover exists only where a bathing establishment or the comune has set a post up, and only while it is open to the public; a beach open for other reasons has to sign that there is no rescue service.
Each staffed post must hold at least one qualified lifeguard, a rescue craft usable in rough water, and a means of emergency communication. For lifeguard purposes the season runs from the third Saturday in May to the third Sunday in September, so outside those months, and on any unmanned stretch of sand, plan on self-rescue.
At sea the call is the Coast Guard on 1530, free from any phone, or Pozzuoli direct on +39 081 5261160; medical emergencies go to 118.

Rules & access
Bacoli sits in the Pozzuoli maritime district, and the governing document is Ordinanza 42/2025 of the Ufficio Circondariale Marittimo di Pozzuoli, which names kitesurf explicitly.
During the bathing season the band of water 200 m out from the shoreline, or 100 m off sheer rock and rocky coast, is reserved for bathers: no kite transit through it, no stopping in it, and no launching or landing across it except by a marked launch corridor.
Corridors are 20 m wide, 10 m where the beach frontage is narrower, edged with yellow floats strung on a line at no more than 50 m spacing and marked at the seaward mouth by two larger floats with white flags; they are public use even when a beach club built them, and swimming inside one is banned.
Further out, Ordinanza 62/2013 of the Naples maritime compartment bans pleasure craft including windsurf and kitesurf from navigating, stopping or mooring within 300 m of beaches and 200 m of sheer coasts, and the corridor is the way through that band.
For lifeguard purposes the 2025 ordinance fixes the season from the third Saturday in May to the third Sunday in September; the actual opening dates are set by Comune di Bacoli's own bathing ordinance 192/2007. A Bacoli mayoral order, n.
82 of 14 June 2024, closes the ground and the water beneath the rocky cliff faces for rockfall risk, which is the corner at the east end of this beach. Nothing kite-specific to Capo Miseno itself has been published.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the launch against current Guardia Costiera and Comune di Bacoli notices before you rig; nothing kite-specific for Capo Miseno has been confirmed.
  • Park at the sandy beach, where the toilets and the food are, and rig where you leave the car.
  • Find the wave breaker before you launch and keep it downwind of your rigging spot.
  • Give the cliffs at the east end a wide margin; that is the corner you do not want to drift into.
  • In June, July and August judge the session by how much sand the bathers have taken, not by the wind.
  • Cross the bathing strip through a marked corridor: yellow floats on a line, 20 m wide, two white-flagged floats at the seaward mouth.
  • The cliff corner east of the beach has been closed ground since June 2024, on land and in the water underneath it.
