This is the Agios Nikolaos on Crete, not the kite lagoon of the same name near Lefkada and Preveza. What exists here is a small beach on the coast road where local freestylers meet when the Meltemi blows, looking out toward Agii Pantes island, with the port and its shipping lane close by.
The pin sits at 35.1949, 25.7170 in a sheltered bay that faces northeast: shallow to moderate depth, rocky peninsulas. The wind numbers are poor, about 6.9 knots average across the year and only about 12% of days rideable by one way of counting, and February and July come out as the best months, which tells you how thin the data is.
Treat it as a session to grab if you happen to be in town, not a reason to fly to Crete. Whether anyone on the ground calls it a lagoon is doubtful; the name probably comes from reading the semi-enclosed bay off a map. Nobody has confirmed the exact launch or whether kiting this close to the port is tolerated.

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2020-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

17–28°C water
A little beach on the coast road, ridden in Meltemi, inside a semi-enclosed bay that faces northeast and is sheltered. Average wave height is around 0.6 m: light swell, occasionally a small wave.

Your level

It has been labelled a beginner spot, which does not square with wind rated very gusty and a bay shared with boats. Call it confident-intermediate to advanced until a local says otherwise: gusts, boat traffic and a confined bay, with nobody on the ground to ask.

    Rider tips

    • Ride in the afternoon; that is when the monthly wind data is least bad.
    • Ask the local freestylers where they rig before you pump up; nobody has published a current kite zone.
    • Stay out of the bay entrance and the shipping lane unless a local has told you it is fine that day.
    • Do not confuse this with Agios Nikolaos near Lefkada, which is the one with the schools and the real lagoon.
    • Suit up for the month: a 4/3 in winter, 2 mm in June, a shorty in July and September, shorts in August.
