Most of New Caledonia's ten spots sit inside or just off the Nouméa lagoon: Ilot Maitre and Ilot Goeland are boat-access islets schools use for shallow, reef-protected beginner water, Pointe Magnin and Le Méridien hold the flat freestyle water off Anse Vata, and Passe de Dumbéa breaks big reef waves ten nautical miles out for anyone with a boat and the nerve.

Bourail's Poé lagoon, ninety minutes west, is the rural flat-water alternative. The season is the SE trade window, November to March, and it suits kiters who want a lagoon trip rather than a beach-break one.
