Boucan Canot is an occasional wave spot, not a beach you plan a trip around.
Trou d'Eau is the kiteable south end of the La Saline-les-Bains lagoon, in the commune of Saint-Paul on Réunion's dry west coast.
La Ravine Blanche is a wave spot on the Saint-Pierre waterfront, its own break but tied to La Gendarmerie next door: you get there through La Gendarmerie or off la Canalisation.
Pointe au Sel is a west-coast Réunion wave spot on the protected headland between Saint-Leu and L'Étang-Salé, and it is barely kited.
Saint-Leu is a selective Réunion kite spot built around La Gauche, the left-hand wave the town is known for, and it is nobody's teaching beach.
Étang-Salé-les-Bains sits on Réunion's south-west coast, where the sand is black volcanic grit and the water in front of the beach is open ocean rather than a lagoon.

Is this coast suitable for beginners?
The Trou d'Eau end of La Saline-les-Bains lagoon offers flat-to-choppy water inside a shallow, coral-fringed lagoon, a more sheltered option than the coast's wave spots. Saint-Leu and Pointe au Sel are selective reef-wave spots for experienced riders, and beach launching is forbidden at Saint-Leu.
Do you need a car?
Yes. There is essentially one main road around the island, with significant traffic at peak hours, needed to link the spread-out spots.
Where should you base yourself?
Saint-Gilles-les-Bains is the island's main resort hub, with beaches, restaurants and the closest base to Boucan Canot and La Saline. Saint-Leu offers a quieter surf-town vibe further south, and Saint-Pierre works as a bigger, often more affordable alternative.
When is the best season?
Cyclone season runs October to April; the drier, cooler austral winter, roughly May to October, is the more settled period for outdoor activity.
Are there any hazards to know about?
Réunion's west-coast open water has seen shark-related swimming and surfing restrictions on some beaches in recent years, so check current local signage before going outside the lagoon.
