On the clock

14:00 · 18:00

No thermal cycle to wait for. The trade blows around the clock, a shade stronger overnight and in the early morning and at its softest between about 14:00 and 18:00, so the early session is usually the windier one. Modelled for the water off this coast, not timed on the beach.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Levera Beach sits inside Levera National Park near Sauteurs, on the northeast coast of Grenada in Saint Patrick. It is an ocean and lagoon spot for intermediate and expert riders: small to medium waves, a medium sandy beach, and car access with no walk.
January-June is the season, the trades come ENE to E, and E is the direction you want. Rocks at the east end of the beach are the only confirmed hazard; the rest of the bottom is unread, and the marine area around it holds coral reefs and seagrass beds.
Water runs 28.4 C in summer and 27.3 C in winter, so shorts. The real constraint is the turtles. Levera is Grenada's primary leatherback nesting beach, and the posted nesting window differs between accounts: March-July, March-August, May-September.
No kite-specific rule has been found, which is not the same as permission, so confirm locally before you ride in nesting season.

Typical strength

Trade-wind spot; no Levera-specific reliability statistics found.
January-June is best at Levera. The wider regional trade-wind season usually runs mid-November-June, with December-June usually most reliable and August-October generally lighter.

Thermal or synoptic

synoptic

The quiver, in words

Indicative, with no measurement at the beach. Through the January-June trades a 75-85 kg rider sits on 10-12 m most days, takes a 9 m when the trade tops out and the swell is up, and would want 13-14 m in the September-October lull if there is enough wind to bother going.

Direction to shore

Side-onshore. The beach runs WNW to ESE and faces roughly NNE, so the ENE-to-E trade comes in over the eastern end and angles onto the sand. That end is where the rocks are, which puts them upwind of your launch.Read off the shoreline's orientation rather than from a rider report.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

  • Rocks
  • rocks at the east end of the beach
  • uncertain hazards outside the east end because the source did not fully verify the rest of the beach
  • protected leatherback turtle nesting beach
  • coral reefs and seagrass beds in the Levera marine area
  • Currents along this coast, with novice swimmers warned off because of them

  • Nesting turtles and their nests on the sand between March and August
Rules & access
2026: no kitesurfing-specific restriction has been published for Levera, which is not the same as permission. The beach is Grenada's primary leatherback nesting ground and the nesting season runs March through August, with a shorter March-to-July window given elsewhere and a May-to-September one in a third account. Nesting tours on the beach have been managed since 2010 by SPECTO, the St Patrick's Environmental and Community Tourism Organization, under a co-management mandate with the Government of Grenada, so that is the body to ask before riding between March and August. The beach sits inside Levera National Park, whose pond and mangroves are a protected wildlife habitat, and the water off it holds coral reef and seagrass.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the current turtle nesting rules before you plan anything from March through September.
  • Stay off the rocks at the east end, and treat the rest of the bottom as unread.
  • Bring water, spares and a self-rescue plan; nothing is serviced on this beach.
  • Allow about 60 minutes by car from Maurice Bishop International Airport, and bring your own vehicle.
  • Ride it as an exploratory wave session, not as a place to learn.
  • Check the current turtle nesting rules before you plan anything from March through September, and ask SPECTO, who run the nesting tours on this beach.
  • Ride early. The trade is at its strongest overnight and through the morning and softens between about 14:00 and 18:00.
  • The wind comes in over the east end, so the rocks are upwind of you; set your launch west of them and keep your first tack out.
  • Save the northern ambulance number before you go: Princess Alice Hospital in Grenville, 724.
