The lagoon side, centered on Svencelė and Dreverna near Klaipėda, sits behind the Curonian Spit and gives flat-to-choppy freshwater riding from April into October - a day-trip scene, not a resort one. Across the spit, Nida mixes that same lagoon calm with a wave-prone Baltic side and enough sightseeing - shifting dunes, Thomas Mann's house - to justify a multi-day stay.

Up the coast, Palanga municipality is the wave zone, with Nemirseta, Kunigiškiai and Šventoji running 1.5-5m waves for intermediate and advanced riders.
