Ammoglossa Keramotis

also known as Ammoglossa, Keramoti Ammoglossa Beach, Αμμόγλωσσα Κεραμωτής

flat waterbeginner-friendly

Nearby Nea Iraklitsa 31 km · straight-line distance

Ammoglossa is a sand spit, roughly 5 km of it, running out from Keramoti port into the Aegean with pine forest behind and beach on both sides, not far from where the Nestos reaches the sea in Kavala's corner of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.
It is sold as a family beach: shallow and calm, Blue Flag, free entry and parking, a wheelchair ramp, one organized stretch with sunbeds and a bar and then long empty sand beyond it, egrets and migrating birds along the waterline.
Kitesurfing and windsurfing get a mention as things you can do here, and that is all; no wind speed, no direction, no season has been published for the spot. No school, no rental, no wind station either.
Calm shallow water points to a flat, learner-friendly beach rather than somewhere to go looking for a powered-up session, but that is a reading of the swimming description, not a rating anyone has given it.
If you do rig, keep clear of the Keramoti-Thassos ferry approach and the sunbed section, and assume the bird habitat around the Nestos mouth may carry restrictions nobody has confirmed for 2026.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rider tips

  • Rig on the free stretches of the spit, away from the sunbed-and-bar section and its swimmers.
  • Keep well clear of the Keramoti-Thassos ferry approach; the spit starts at the port.
  • Leave the shoreline birds and the wetland toward the Nestos alone; the delta is protected and rigging there is asking for trouble.
  • Parking at the beach is free; without a car it is the bus toward Xanthi, then a taxi or a walk.
  • Nobody has published wind numbers for this beach, so carry a range of kites and expect to guess.
