Good to know before you go2
- Cetara's launch is a small sandy beach where a boat start is preferred over self-launch — factor in rocks and a tight shoreline.
- Battipaglia proper is an industrial town, not a beach destination in itself — the kite spot is a separate tourist-village site outside town.
The spots
Battipaglia / Baia dei Delfini
Battipaglia is a school beach more than a spot, and the public record is thinner than for the Salento spots.

The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 9.1 kt in April, the strongest month it models for this spot.
Battipaglia / Baia dei Delfini: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Battipaglia / Baia dei Delfini
The base is the Baia dei Delfini tourist village on the Gulf of Salerno, and it has what a school needs: guarded parking, a changing room, showers, a weather station and a grass area for packing kites. The wind is only ever described as onshore or side-onshore, with no compass directions and no monthly statistics, and that is a real gap rather than a small one. In summer the setup moves about 300 m toward Baia d'Argento to stay clear of bathers, and that stretch is quieter and workable for a beginner. Beginners do the beach handling here before the water lessons move to the Amalfi Coast with boat support; nothing documents independent advanced riders using the beach. The sea turns rough as soon as the onshore wind gets up, which is the honest limit of the place. August water is around 26-27 C and January around 15 C. No kite corridor or bathing-season ordinance has been confirmed for this beach, so talk to the school before you self-launch.
Getting on the water
School setup at the Baia dei Delfini tourist village, with guarded parking, a changing room, shower service, a weather station and a grass area for packing equipment.
If it goes wrong
A small inflatable rescue boat sits on the beach at Baia dei Delfini for assistance and offshore lessons, alongside the boat-assisted lessons the school runs out of Cetara and Salerno.
Rules and access
No Guardia Costiera or municipal kitesurf ordinance specific to Battipaglia or Baia dei Delfini has been found. General Salerno-area Capitaneria di Porto bathing-season rules probably apply; check the corridor signage locally before launching.
Cetara
Cetara is a specialist spot, and the shore is the reason: a small sandy beach on an otherwise rocky piece of the Amalfi Coast, too tight to self-launch comfortably, so riding here normally starts from an assistance boat.

Cetara: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Cetara
The wind is a W thermal that fills in about noon and blows almost every day from May to September, 15-18 knots, stronger when a NW Mistral is in place. Water is flat to choppy with the odd small wave. Tramontana is rideable but keeps you very close to shore. This is an expert spot and a beginner has nothing to do here. April through September are the months to plan around. The legal side matters as much as the wind: the 2026 Capitaneria di Porto di Salerno bathing-safety ordinance n. 50/2026 bans departure, transit and landing of surf, windsurf and kitesurf on concession and free beaches except through authorized launch corridors, and on a free beach with no corridor you go out only with no bathers in the water and on a line as perpendicular to the shore as you can hold.
Getting on the water
A small sandy beach on a rocky stretch of the Amalfi Coast, under the Torre Vicereale and just outside the harbour. The rock is the reason riding starts from an assistance boat rather than off the sand; the boat also puts you clear of the beach and the bathers. Cetara is the windiest point of the Salerno province coast in summer.
If it goes wrong
Riding here is boat-based. An assistance-boat lift for experienced riders runs out of Circolo Canottieri Irno in Salerno, which also provides changing rooms, equipment storage and the mooring; the contact number given for the lift is +39 335 5833038. Availability and price are not published and have to be agreed in advance. A rescue or lifeguard presence at the spot itself is listed but unconfirmed, with no operator, phone or cost attached to it.
Rules and access
2026 Capitaneria di Porto di Salerno bathing-safety ordinance n. 50/2026 bans landing, transit and departure of surf, windsurf and kitesurf in concession and free beach areas unless through authorized launch corridors; on free beaches without a corridor, departure/landing is only allowed without bathers and on a route as perpendicular as possible to shore. The same ordinance cites Salerno Ordinance n. 31/2007 as the specific kitesurf circulation ordinance.

What riders say
3 recurring claims
School and trip logistics get positive rider comments, especially correspondence, organization, rental gear and the instructor/boat setup.
majority×3 riders
Battipaglia is the practical teaching beach in this pair; Cetara is the scenic boat-assisted Amalfi option for riders who can already handle deep water.
majority×2 riders
The Amalfi Coast ride is remembered more for scenery and logistics than for guaranteed wind; at least one rider still found it worth paying for with lighter wind.
