Good to know before you go2
- Lefkadi Surf Club, the main on-spot kite hub (school/bar/rentals), is reported closed. Check whether it is open before you book around it.
- Liani Ammos' tidal swing changes the beach through the day: the same sandy strip is underwater for about six hours, then dry and pushed back for the next six, so the usable shallow-water window moves.
The spots

Lefkadi: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Lefkadi
The beach is wide and sandy with nothing in the water to hit, and the wind is a smooth thermal that usually builds after 15:00 and runs 15-25 knots in the main session window, best from SE and E. Kitepark Lefkadi, also listed as Leukanti, is rated separately as beginner to expert and tide independent, with the water flat in one account and shallow and choppy in another. The catch is on land. Lefkadi Surf Club is currently closed, so the beach may still be kiteable but school, rescue, showers or beach bar cannot be assumed, and you want a partner who can land your kite. When the forecast turns N or NW, Liani Ammos up the coast is the answer rather than forcing this beach. April, May and June are the months that hold up for twin-tip riding.
Getting on the water
Wide sandy waterfront launch at Lefkadi, also written Lefkandi, on the South Evoikos Gulf, about a 10-minute walk from the village. Lefkadi Surf Club is currently closed, so assume no organized launch facilities, no school and no rescue on site.
If it goes wrong
The surf club on this waterfront is still carrying a Closed label in September 2026, so there is no school, no rental and no rescue boat on the beach. Treat Lefkadi as an unsupervised spot. Ride with a partner who can land your kite, tell someone your session window, and carry a phone in a dry pouch. Nothing organised is watching this water.
Rules and access
2026: no Lefkadi-specific municipal rule exists, so Greece's national kitesurfing regime applies, set by a Ministerial Decision published in Government Gazette 4415/B of 7 October 2020. Stay at least 200 m from swimmers. Riding is prohibited within 200 m of the shoreline, except at beaches where floating buoys mark the swimming limit, where you ride only outside those buoys. No riding before sunrise or after sunset, beyond 1 nautical mile from shore, above 6 Beaufort without licensed lifeguards present, or in poor visibility and storms. A wetsuit is required from 15 October to 15 May. When the wind blows toward open sea, a powered rescue craft with a qualified supervisor must be on hand, and with the surf club closed nothing on this beach provides one.
Liani Ammos Chalkida
Liani Ammos is a sandy town beach in Chalkida on Evia, and the Euripus tide runs the place.

The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 9.7 kt in July, the strongest month it models for this spot.
Liani Ammos Chalkida: the long version, the launch and the rules
More on Liani Ammos Chalkida
The water sits close to the road for about six hours, then pulls back several meters for the next six, and the flow reverses with it, so the beach you rig on in the morning is a different beach by evening. Kiters come because those shallow phases are forgiving, and because it is the north and northwest alternative when Lefkadi has the wrong wind. North is onshore here. Shallow water and Meltemi conditions make it a sound place to learn, and it is close enough to Chalkida and to Athens to be a same-day decision when the forecast turns. What is not established: typical knots, gustiness, onset time, launch management, rescue, crowd. Swimming quality, signage and cleanliness are reported as poor and the official current status is unconfirmed, so read the beach and any signs before you get in the water.
Getting on the water
Urban sandy beach launch on the north/east side of Chalkida near the road.
If it goes wrong
No rescue service on the beach. The school whose club sat ten minutes south at Lefkadi now marks that club closed and works out of Marmari in south Evia, so its boat is no longer a short call away, and nothing local replaces it. Ride within a self-rescue of the town shore and keep 112 on your phone.
Rules and access
2026: Greece's national kitesurfing rules still rest on the Ministerial Decision published in Government Gazette 4415/B of 7 October 2020: stay at least 200 m from swimmers and 100 m from marker buoys, keep the launch area clear within 100 m, do not ride before sunrise or after sunset, do not go beyond 1 nautical mile from shore, do not ride above 6 Beaufort or in poor visibility or storms, wear a wetsuit from 15 October to 15 May, and have a motorized rescue boat with a qualified supervisor whenever the wind blows offshore. No Liani Ammos-specific municipal or port-authority kite rule has been published. On the water: a public-health announcement of 20 August 2020 barred swimming at Liani Ammos after an Enterococci exceedance, pending a clean resample, and the regional round of June 2025 reported all 107 Evia bathing beaches sampled within limits without naming individual beaches. Read whatever signs are standing on the sand.

What riders say
5 recurring claims
The selling point people actually name is the afternoon thermal at Lefkadi: it fills in most summer afternoons and it blows here when other places nearby are flat.
consensus×3 riders
In summer the place reads as a small club rather than a beach: bar, music, hammocks, food, people eating together after the session. Several riders say it feels like family after a few days.
consensus×3 riders
Out of season the welcome changes. More than one visitor reports the local crew being rude or openly aggressive to outsiders in winter and spring, and rubbish left on the beach.
majority×2 riders
The two beaches are a wind-direction pair, not a choice of vibe: Lefkadi is the easterly and westerly beach, Liani Ammos is what you drive to when it is north or northwest.
majority×2 riders
Liani Ammos itself splits opinion badly. The same beach gets called a wild, fine-sand spot with a striking low tide and gets marked down for dirty water and swimming restrictions.

Yes, it is a wide, hazard-free sandy beach with smooth thermal wind, suitable for learning and regular practice.
What is the wind like?
An afternoon thermal typically starts after 15:00 at Lefkadi, while Liani Ammos is worked as a north/northwest wind spot.
What makes Liani Ammos distinctive?
It sits on Chalkida's unusual Euripus tidal system, which makes the water very shallow.
