Nikoleika - Rizomylos: the long version, the launch and the rules

    More on Nikoleika - Rizomylos

It runs on eastern and northeastern wind, usually side or side-onshore, and it is tide independent, so the only question on the day is whether the gradient turns up. Nikoleika and Digeliotika are the two beaches the Aigio riders rotate between when the wind swings east. This is not a learning beach: strong wind, big waves and current push the whole Aigio stretch to intermediate and advanced, and beginner courses get sent along the coast to Cape Drepano. Spot listings still tag it beginner-friendly, so ignore that label unless someone local tells you the day is mellow. March to October is the working window, and in summer people ride early morning and again in the afternoon with a break through the middle of the day.

    Getting on the water

Big pebbly beach at Nikoleika/Rizomylos with parking, food, showers, rooms and camping.

    If it goes wrong

Advanced lessons, downwinders and safety-boat support can be arranged for a fee. Rescue for independent riders at Nikoleika is unconfirmed.

    Rules and access

2026: no posted local rules found. That comes from community-contributed information, so ask on the beach before you ride.

Digeliotika: the long version, the launch and the rules

    More on Digeliotika

It is grouped with Nikoleika for eastern and northeastern winds, and the reason anyone bothers is that the local wind often comes in strong. That same strength brings big waves and strong currents along this stretch, so the whole Aigio coast is intermediate and advanced ground. Nikoleika, Aliki Aigiou, Mpouka and Cape Drepano are all within driving distance, and locals move between them as the direction changes. Nobody has published a wind range, a standing depth or a kite zone for Digeliotika itself, so you are riding on local advice and your own eyes. The beach fills with swimmers from June to September and the lifeguard is there for them, not for you. Water sits around 24.2 C in summer and 15.5 C in winter.

    Getting on the water

Beach launch on an organized beach on the east side of Aigio, one of several Aigio spots picked by the day's wind direction.

    If it goes wrong

A lifeguard works the organised beach in summer and is there for swimmers. No kite rescue and no rescue boat on call for independent riders. Emergency number 112.

    Rules and access

No kite-specific municipal rule for Aigialeia or for this beach was found as of 2026. The national General Port Regulation No. 20 (Government Gazette B' 444 of 26 April 1999, the instrument still in force after later amendments) applies: no riding before sunrise or after sunset; at least 200 m off the shoreline and 200 m from swimmers, anchored boats, buoys and obstacles; no further out than 1 nautical mile; 1 nautical mile clear of port and marina entrances, reducible to 500 m by the local port authority; a clear 100 m radius at the launch. Helmet, harness with hook, line-cutting knife, quick-release and flotation are compulsory, and a wetsuit is compulsory from 15 October to 15 May. Under-16s may not ride; 14 and 15 with parental consent, swimming ability and supervision. Riding above 6 Beaufort without lifeguard cover, or in onshore wind with no motorised rescue craft nearby, is not allowed. On top of that this is an organised beach that has held a Blue Flag continuously since 2005, with a lifeguard and a swimming area in season, so the 200 m separation from swimmers is the rule that will actually get enforced here.
