Digeliotika

also known as Digeliotika Beach, Paralia Digeliotika, Digi(e)liotika

advanced only

Nearby Nikoleika - Rizomylos 4 km · Drepano (Achaia) 26 km · straight-line distance

Digeliotika is an organized village beach on the Gulf of Corinth, on the east side of Aigio, and one of several Aigio spots riders pick by the day's wind. It is grouped with Nikoleika for eastern and northeastern winds, and the reason anyone bothers is that the local wind often comes in strong.
That same strength brings big waves and strong currents along this stretch, so the whole Aigio coast is intermediate and advanced ground. Nikoleika, Aliki Aigiou, Mpouka and Cape Drepano are all within driving distance, and locals move between them as the direction changes.
Nobody has published a wind range, a standing depth or a kite zone for Digeliotika itself, so you are riding on local advice and your own eyes. The beach fills with swimmers from June to September and the lifeguard is there for them, not for you. Water sits around 24.2 C in summer and 15.5 C in winter.

Typical strength

No measurement exists for Digeliotika or the neighbouring Aigio beaches. What is documented is that the wind here often blows hard, and that strength is the whole reason kiters gather on this particular beach.

Strong wind is common and it is what makes the beach rideable. The Aigio spots are mostly intermediate to advanced water.
The broader Aigialeia kite and windsurf season runs all year, with summer the strongest part. No month list specific to Digeliotika has been published.

The quiver, in words

Nothing measured. Riders come here for the strong days, so pack for the bottom of the quiver: roughly 7 to 9 m for 75-85 kg when it is on, with a 10 or 12 m for the lighter morning window. Indicative, derived from the local description of the wind rather than from any wind record.

Direction to shore

This stretch of the Gulf of Corinth faces north, and the eastern and northeastern winds that make the beach work run along it rather than into it: side-shore, coming down the coast from the right as you look out. Derived from the run of the coast; nobody has published the angle at the launch.

Dominant direction

Eastern and northeastern winds.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

sea

Standing depth

Pebble and sand-pebble, like the whole Aigialeia shore, and the water has depth close in rather than shelving out flat. The beaches along this coast average only 3 to 5 m of sand between the road and the sea. No wading distance has been measured for Digeliotika itself.

Tides

Tide does not shape a session on the Gulf of Corinth. The range is among the smallest anywhere and the level responds to wind and pressure more than to the moon. No local gauge figure was found.

Temperature

24.2°C summer · 15.5°C winter

Wetsuit

Go by the Aigio sea temperatures: warm in summer at about 24.2 C, neoprene from the shoulder season on, and about 15.5 C in winter.

Currents

Strong currents are reported along the wider Aigio kite coast.

  • Strong wind on this stretch of coast.
  • Big waves on this stretch of coast.
  • Strong currents on this stretch of coast.
  • Organized beach and summer swimmers.
  • Launch details and safe kite zone are not well documented.
  • Blue Flag organised beach with a marked swimming area and a lifeguard on duty in the summer months.
  • The strip of sand is narrow, 3 to 5 m on average along this coast, so there is little room to lay out lines.
Rules & access
No kite-specific municipal rule for Aigialeia or for this beach was found as of 2026. The national General Port Regulation No. 20 (Government Gazette B' 444 of 26 April 1999, the instrument still in force after later amendments) applies: no riding before sunrise or after sunset; at least 200 m off the shoreline and 200 m from swimmers, anchored boats, buoys and obstacles; no further out than 1 nautical mile; 1 nautical mile clear of port and marina entrances, reducible to 500 m by the local port authority; a clear 100 m radius at the launch.
Helmet, harness with hook, line-cutting knife, quick-release and flotation are compulsory, and a wetsuit is compulsory from 15 October to 15 May. Under-16s may not ride; 14 and 15 with parental consent, swimming ability and supervision. Riding above 6 Beaufort without lifeguard cover, or in onshore wind with no motorised rescue craft nearby, is not allowed.
On top of that this is an organised beach that has held a Blue Flag continuously since 2005, with a lifeguard and a swimming area in season, so the 200 m separation from swimmers is the rule that will actually get enforced here.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ask Aigio riders where the launch actually is, because no public source defines a kite zone here.
  • Do not come to learn: beginner lessons in this part of Achaia are run at other beaches.
  • Give the organized beach and its swimmers a wide berth from June to September.
  • Bring neoprene outside high summer; the water sits near 15.5 C in winter against 24.2 C in summer.
