On the clock

14:00 · 15:00 · 20:00

Thermal wind builds almost every day after 15:00; lessons in the camp itinerary run 14:00-20:00 depending on wind.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Lefkadi is an Evia spot on the South Evoikos Gulf, near Chalkida and inside driving range of Athens. The beach is wide and sandy with nothing in the water to hit, and the wind is a smooth thermal that usually builds after 15:00 and runs 15-25 knots in the main session window, best from SE and E.
Kitepark Lefkadi, also listed as Leukanti, is rated separately as beginner to expert and tide independent, with the water flat in one account and shallow and choppy in another. The catch is on land.
Lefkadi Surf Club is currently closed, so the beach may still be kiteable but school, rescue, showers or beach bar cannot be assumed, and you want a partner who can land your kite. When the forecast turns N or NW, Liani Ammos up the coast is the answer rather than forcing this beach.
April, May and June are the months that hold up for twin-tip riding.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Leukanti has shallow water and Kitepark Lefkadi is flat island/lagoon riding. Exact standing-depth distance is unconfirmed.

Tides

The Lefkadi/Kitepark spot is listed as tide independent.

Temperature

Summer Summer sea temperature ranges 19-29 C; nearby Chalkis averages 26.8 C in August.

Winter Lefkandi winter range reported as 13-20 C; nearby Khalkis February average is 13.6 C

Wetsuit

High summer can be boardshorts/shorty; winter needs a full wetsuit and possibly thicker neoprene based on Lefkandi/Khalkis water-temperature ranges.

14–29°C water
The Southern Evoikos Gulf beach is wide, sandy and hazard free. Water at nearby Leukanti is shallow and flat, with chop and small waves; at Kitepark Lefkadi it is flat and clean.

Rescue

The surf club on this waterfront is still carrying a Closed label in September 2026, so there is no school, no rental and no rescue boat on the beach. Treat Lefkadi as an unsupervised spot. Ride with a partner who can land your kite, tell someone your session window, and carry a phone in a dry pouch.
Nothing organised is watching this water.

Launch

Wide sandy waterfront launch at Lefkadi, also written Lefkandi, on the South Evoikos Gulf, about a 10-minute walk from the village. Lefkadi Surf Club is currently closed, so assume no organized launch facilities, no school and no rescue on site.

  • trees and road reported as beach risks
  • other beach users in the April-September season
  • current school/facility status unclear because Lefkadi Surf Club is reported closed
  • no public rescue on record if the former surf club is not operating
  • Lefkadi Surf Club is currently closed, with school and facility services not operating
  • no rescue boat or safety service is listed while the surf club remains closed
Rules & access
2026: no Lefkadi-specific municipal rule exists, so Greece's national kitesurfing regime applies, set by a Ministerial Decision published in Government Gazette 4415/B of 7 October 2020. Stay at least 200 m from swimmers. Riding is prohibited within 200 m of the shoreline, except at beaches where floating buoys mark the swimming limit, where you ride only outside those buoys. No riding before sunrise or after sunset, beyond 1 nautical mile from shore, above 6 Beaufort without licensed lifeguards present, or in poor visibility and storms. A wetsuit is required from 15 October to 15 May. When the wind blows toward open sea, a powered rescue craft with a qualified supervisor must be on hand, and with the surf club closed nothing on this beach provides one.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check whether Lefkadi Surf Club has reopened before you count on rental, rescue, showers or food at the beach.
  • Plan the session for the thermal after about 15:00; mornings are lighter and mostly foil wind.
  • Pack 12 m and 9 m as your core sizes, with a 7 m for the strong thermal days.
  • If the forecast is N or NW, ask locally about Liani Ammos instead of forcing Lefkadi.
  • Keep launches and landings clear of the trees and the road behind the beach, and of the summer beach users.

Staying

Camp accommodation around Lefkadi was listed outside July and August, with July and August stays possibly moved to Marmari. Village rooms around Lefkadi and Lefkandi, or Chalkida, are the safer assumption.

No-wind days

Chalkida waterfront and Euripus tidal strait, Lefkandi village, Evia beaches, cycling/trekking and winery visits listed as optional camp activities, and Liani Ammos when N/NW Meltemi is working.
