Kish Kite Beach has no other spot on this map within 40 km of it. straight-line distance

Kish Kite Beach is the dedicated kiteboarding beach on the west side of Kish Island, in Iran's Hormozgan Province, on Sunset Road before Kolbeh Hoor. It covers about 3000 square meters of sand, and the Persian Gulf in front of it is shallow to suitably deep, wave-free to choppy.
The wind is the honest problem here: the nearby airport gives a 9 kt annual mean and monthly spot averages sit mostly at 8-11 kt, so a lot of days are light-wind days. November through February or March is when to come, with January, February, November and December marked high season.
Summer still gets breeze, but the thermal turns unreliable and the heat and humidity are punishing. Coral is the recurring hazard and swimmers share the water. Sort one thing out before you drive: kiting on Kish is confirmed, but accounts disagree on whether 'Kite Beach' means this west-side Kolbeh Hoor site or a northeast-side spot near Men's Beach.

Typical strength

15 kt average with gusts to 20 kt in the November-February/March core season; the all-year station average across every month, including light days, is lower at 8-11 kt.

Generally light to moderate: thermal breeze/light wind, with the November-February season more reliable.
January, February, November and December are the high-season months, with March-October marked medium. The good stretch is November to February/March: cooler air, around 15 kt, some 20 kt gusts. From April/May through September the thermal gets patchy and the weather is very hot and humid.
The winter and spring Shamal comes from the northwest; summer wind comes from the southeast.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Persian Gulf water over a sandy bottom, wave-free to choppy. Wind, sand and workable depth are why this beach was set aside for kiteboarding. Coral comes up again and again around the Kish kite spots.

Rider tips

  • Confirm the exact launch with the local school before you rig; local and English descriptions put Kish 'Kite Beach' in two different places.
  • Bring or rent light-wind gear unless the forecast shows real Shamal or southeast wind.
  • Turn up 30 minutes before your slot with a life jacket; as of 2024 both are required and under-15s cannot take part.
  • Skip the peak of summer if heat gets to you; it runs over 40 C and humid.
