Pirangi do Norte is a built-up beach south of Natal in Rio Grande do Norte, a light-wind freeride and learning spot rather than a destination.
Southeast trades blow 15-25 knots from July to February on paper; the historical average is lower and reliability rates low, so it is a spot you ride when you are already there, not one you fly for. Water is shallow, sheltered beach-break: sandy bottom, moderate waves, sandbars close in.
The beach is narrow, houses back straight onto it, and in summer it fills with swimmers, so launch space is tight and the wind comes through gusty. No school, no rules and no rescue have been recorded, and it is unconfirmed whether anyone kites here regularly today or the name only survives in the spot databases.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rider tips

  • Come July to February and treat any day over 15 knots as a bonus; the average is lower than the 15-25 quoted.
  • Ride outside the summer beach crowd; the strip is narrow and full of swimmers in season.
  • Bring your biggest kite; this is a light-wind spot.
  • Stay clear of the sandbars close to shore on the way out.
