Praia do Amor is the wave beach under the cliffs at Pipa, and it is the technical one; Barra do Cunhau down the coast is where you go for flat water. The Alisios blow side-onshore from E/ESE/SE at 15 to 25 knots.
Nobody has published best months for this beach on its own; Pipa's high season is August to December and Amor is strongest in exactly that window. It is open Atlantic surf.
At low tide the waves run 0.5-1 m and the beach is wide enough to rig without thinking; at high tide they can reach about 2 m and the sand shrinks to a strip with rocks at both ends, which makes high tide the better wave session and the worse launch.
Intermediate and expert only: currents, reef, shorebreak, and a beach full of surfers and bathers who were there first. The lifeguards will hold a kite for you but there is no kite rescue. Praia do Amor is about 15 minutes on foot from central Pipa, and the water is 26-29 C, so leave the wetsuit at home.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

ocean wave beach

Standing depth

Sand bottom that shifts with the tide. At low water you can touch down across parts of the inside; at high tide you are out of your depth from the shorebreak onwards. No measured depth exists for the beach.

Tides

Tidal. Low tide: 0.5-1 m waves and a wide beach. High tide: waves up to about 2 m and a narrow beach, and that is the better tide for the waves.

Temperature

28°C summer · 26°C winter

Wetsuit

No wetsuit normally needed; sunny conditions year-round with water roughly 26-29 C.

Currents

A noticeable current sets along the southern end of the beach. The working rule is not to drift far downwind, because coming back upwind past the rocks is the hard part. No measured speed.

27–30°C water
Open Atlantic beach exposed to swell, with small to big waves depending on tide and swell. The beach is mainly a wave/freeride venue rather than a flat-water beginner spot.

Your level

not for beginners hereintermediateadvanced
Intermediate and expert. Some Pipa beaches are fine for beginners; this is not one of them: waves, rocks, currents and a beach that disappears at high tide. Learn elsewhere and come back.

The scene

What riders come here for

wavesfreeridestraplesssurf-kite
Pipa is a busy surf town with restaurants and nightlife, and its beachgoers come to Amor; bathers and surfers eat into the kite space.

Room to launch: Tight and tidal. The usable strip is about 7 m wide at high water and up to roughly 12 m at low, and there is only around 100 m of beach before the rocks, which is four kites at once and no more.

Rescue

The lifeguards will help launch and land; there is no kite rescue.

Launch

Sandy tidal beach below the Pipa cliffs. Low tide leaves a wide launch with few obstacles; high tide narrows the usable beach and rocks sit at both ends.

Rider tips

  • Rig at low tide when the beach is wide; at high tide you are launching from a strip between rocks at both ends.
  • Give the surfers the peak; there is no kite zoning at Amor and they were here first.
  • Treat a high-tide session as a wave session with a narrow exit, not a freeride cruise.
  • Beginners and anyone wanting flat water: go to Barra do Cunhau or Tibau do Sul/Malemba instead.
  • Walk from central Pipa; it is about 15 minutes on foot.
