Taíba
Taiba sits on the Ceara coast between Cumbuco and Paracuru and holds two spots in one: a flat-water lagoon and the ocean in front of the village.
Pecém Reef
Pecém Reef is a wave spot, one of the few point-breaks on the Ceará coast between Cumbuco and Paracuru, off Praia do Pecém in São Gonçalo do Amarante, about 60 km from Fortaleza.

The lagoon is small and it fills up fast. The number people keep repeating is about five kites before it stops being fun and around ten before tricks are off the table, and this complaint has been constant for close to twenty years.

There are submerged rocks at the back of the lagoon and shells along the shallow edges. People get hurt here, and at least one account references an injury serious enough for a helicopter evacuation.

Quieter than Cumbuco is the trade, and quieter also means duller. The village is mellow and spread out, the food is decent, and people who wanted a scene after sundown say plainly there isn't one.

The downwinder to Paracuru, roughly 14 km, gets talked about more warmly than the lagoon itself. Clean waves close to shore on the second half, and the stretch from Pecem down into Taiba is the choppy grind people warn about.

There are posted rules on the lagoon and they are strict: a hard cap of ten kites on the water at once, no lessons, no beginners, stay 50m off the rocks, and you can be asked to leave for riding badly. Turning up to learn here does not work.

The ocean out front is the pressure valve. When the lagoon is full people ride the beach break instead, and the standard advice for anyone who wants space is to go out the front rather than queue for flat water.

The wind fills in late morning and keeps building through the afternoon, so the lagoon is calmest early and worst around the time everybody wants to ride. In December people report wind literally every day.

You cannot stay on the lagoon. Accommodation is back in the village and you need transport to get to the water, which catches out people who assumed a walk-out spot.

The Pecem point break next door was better before the port. It used to be one of the region's few real point-breaks and it works far less often since the cargo pier went in.

The name Taibinha is used for two different things and that causes confusion when booking. Some references mean a small satellite lagoon and a camp of that name, others mean the wave spot west past the stone cliffs where the sets get big at high tide.

When is the best time to kite Taíba?
July to January brings the strongest trade winds and the busiest season.
Is the Taíba lagoon good for beginners?
It's shallow, sandy-bottomed and flat, but sources describe it as not a consequence-free beginner pond, so instruction is recommended before going alone.
What if the main lagoon is crowded?
Taibinha, a smaller satellite lagoon a few kilometers away, exists specifically as a quieter overflow option, and Taibinha Kitesurf Camp serves it directly.
Do I need a car in Taíba?
Useful for reaching the lagoon and moving between the beach and lagoon spots, though the village itself is walkable.
Where should I stay?
Pousada Taiba Blauset sits near the lagoon; Cumbuco, 25km away, has more infrastructure, schools and nightlife if Taíba feels too quiet.
