Bora and Scirocco are synoptic: they arrive on the forecast rather than on a clock, and can already be blowing at dawn or hold overnight. In the warm months the workable wind is more often a sea breeze that comes up around midday and runs into the evening, and sessions that start at lunchtime and build through the afternoon are the pattern riders report. A light land breeze at sunset, the local calasole, is reported in late winter. Indicative — no hourly climatology is published for the beach.

The spot

Location and club

Marina di Ravenna is the kite beach at the Porto Corsini harbour mouth, north-east of Ravenna. The club on site, Adriatico Wind Club, is FIV and IKO recognized and runs a live weather station at its Porto Corsini base, which is the quickest way to know whether it is on before you drive. NE Bora is fresher and gustier and pushes small waves that the long jetty tidies up; SE is warmer and steadier, and flat. Beach and seabed are sand, and there is a big car park by the mole.

Season and water

Free riding lives mainly outside the bathing season, March to June and September to November, and in summer you are down to early and late hours or the reserved kite beach for club members. There is no dinghy rescue, the shipping channel is right there, and the winter water goes to 8.7 C, so a beginner here belongs with a school. Bora sessions run from about 12 kt to 35 kt at the rough end.

At 75-85 kg a 12 m is the everyday kite and the one locals reach for in the summer thermal, when 10 kt is a good day. For the 6-8 kt afternoons that summer often hands you it is 15 m and dedicated light-wind gear or nothing. No dinghy and no standby rescue on the water, and the shipping channel runs right past the launch. In season the club on the beach is the practical shore contact, on 0544 448233; it also runs the live weather station at the Porto Corsini base. Emergencies go to the coastguard on 1530 or VHF channel 16.

2026: Ravenna bathing and harbour rules apply at Porto Corsini. The only area authorised for kitesurf in the Comune di Ravenna is the free beach 500 m north of the club, between Porto Corsini and Marina Romea, run under a Comune di Ravenna concession — but that concession was reportedly not renewed in January 2024, when the 100-150 m of reserved kite beach was lost and members were pointed at the corridor shared with windsurfers and boats, so check what is actually in force before you rig.

The governing text is the 2026 Comune di Ravenna integrative bathing ordinance (TL 509/2026, protocol 112518/2026 of 25 May 2026), cited in the 2026 maritime-safety orders of the Capitaneria di Porto di Ravenna. Its corridor-specific wording was not accessible.

Work out which launch is live before you unpack: Bagno Tarifa, the Adriatico Wind Club beach, or the summer reserved kite beach.
In Bora, stay well upwind of the mole and the harbour mouth. Ships use it.
Ride the winter if you want the beach empty, but bring hood and boots for water near 8.7 C.
Before rigging in summer, confirm the corridor terms of the 2026 bathing ordinance with the Comune or the club.
The bather problem is June to August. Either side of that it is a non-issue and the beach is yours.
There is no rescue boat. Keep upwind margin on the channel side and treat a broken line there as entirely your own problem.
