Cesenatico is two kite places under one name. Valverde, south of the port, has school and rental activity around Bagno Schiuma; Ponente, on the other side of town, is where the paperwork is.
For 2026 the Comune recorded an exclusive kitesurf launch corridor in front of the Via Magellano free beach on Spiaggia di Ponente, and no equivalent document exists for Valverde, so settle which side you are going to before you load the car.
The riding is standard shallow Adriatic: flat or chopped up under 12 knots, small clean waves after a sustained SE Scirocco, bigger and more broken water on N/NE, occasionally over 2 m. Stone breakwaters about 300 m off the beach hold flatter water inside them and are fixed obstacles.
Summer is thermal, 8-14 knots of SE on most days and around 20 knots when there is Scirocco in the Adriatic, but from June to August the beach belongs to the establishments and you ride early morning or at sunset. Spring and autumn is when independent riders get room, and the wind is stronger and cleaner then.
In the colder months a sand barrier near the seafront can push your rigging spot down to the waterline.

Character

mixed

fills in: In summer you ride early morning or around sunset, around the beach establishments' hours. No precise daily thermal onset is published.

Typical strength

Summer SE thermals of 8-14 knots, boosted to around 20 knots if there is SE wind in the Adriatic; N/NE onshore and side-onshore winds can vary from 8-35 knots or more.

Forecast-driven Romagna Adriatic conditions. SE is the best side/side-on wind because it is warmer and makes cleaner small waves; N/NE/E winds are cooler and can make bigger, more broken waves.
Mid-season is recommended because climate and probability of good wind are better. Summer brings almost daily light SE thermal, but launch and safety zones are drastically reduced by beach tourism in June-August.

The quiver, in words

Indicative for a 75-85 kg rider, sized off the wind ranges rather than measured here. The 8-14 knot summer thermal is 15-17 m or foil territory, and 12 m only once a Scirocco pushes it past 18 knots. Around 20 knots takes 10-12 m.The 25-35 knot N/NE systems take 7-9 m. Locals count 12-13 knots as a big day between April and September, so the light-wind end of the quiver is what actually gets used.

Direction to shore

Side to side-on for SE, N/NE and E sectors at the Cesenatico beaches; S can be slightly side-off and turbulent near buildings at Ponente.

Dominant direction

SE thermal/Scirocco, NE Grecale/Bora, N to NE Tramontana/Bora

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Type

flat, chop and small waves; locally flatter behind breakwater barriers

Standing depth

About 50 m of standing-depth water is reported at the Cesenatico Windsurf Club corridor. Nothing published for Valverde.

Tides

Normally ridden as tide independent, the Adriatic range here being small. What counts as the best tide differs between the two sides of town: low at Ponente/La Madonnina, high at Levante/Valverde. Neither is settled.

Temperature

26.5°C summer · 9°C winter

Wetsuit

Boardshorts in summer; 3/2 or thicker in spring/autumn; drysuit or thick winter wetsuit for cold strong-wind winter sessions.

8–29°C water
Flat water or chop under 12 knots. A sustained 12+ knot Scirocco thermal builds decent waves, and stronger onshore wind can push it past 2 m. The stone walls about 300 m off the beach hold flatter water inside them and are fixed hazards to keep away from.

Your level

beginnerintermediateadvanced
Beginner, intermediate and advanced kitesurf courses run in Cesenatico, with wide launch and landing space at the Windsurf Club. Independent beginners should use school or corridor support, above all in summer when the usable zone shrinks and breakwaters, bystanders and swimmers are all in the way.

Rescue

Bagno Schiuma's beach services include lifeguards and first aid, but there is no dedicated kite rescue. The 2026 Via Magellano notice covers a launch corridor, not a rescue service.

Launch

For the 2026 bathing season, the Comune di Cesenatico formally recorded (30 April 2026, protocol 20727/2026) the reactivation of an exclusive kitesurf launch corridor in front of the Via Magellano free beach on Spiaggia di Ponente, run by Circolo Wind Surf Cesenatico under the same demanial authorization first issued in 2014 and renewed every season since; the corridor runs from the shoreline to the outer limit of the bathing-reserved zone.No equivalent 2026 corridor document exists for Bagno Schiuma/Valverde, so the documented legal 2026 launch point for Cesenatico is Ponente/Via Magellano, not Valverde.

Space

Medium at Valverde beach establishments; bigger at the Windsurf Club/Ponente area.

Hazards riders report 6

  • Wave-breaker stone barriers around some Cesenatico beaches.
  • Swimmers, bystanders, deck chairs, umbrellas and children in June-August.
  • Reduced launch and safety zones in summer.
  • Buildings near the beach can create wind holes and turbulence with slightly side-off south wind at Ponente/La Madonnina.
  • Winter/spring/autumn sand barriers near the seafront may require rigging closer to the shoreline.
  • Strong onshore and side-onshore winds can create messy waves.
Rules & access
  • 2026: the Comune di Cesenatico recorded on 30 April 2026, protocol 0020727/2026, the installation for the 2026 bathing season of a launch corridor for exclusive kite-surf use in the water in front of the Via Magellano free beach on the Spiaggia di Ponente, running from the shoreline to the outer limit of the bathing-reserved zone. It rests on demanial authorization protocol 16.262 of 6 May 2014, first granted for the 2014 season and reactivated each year since on a simple notice of activation; the 2026 notice from Circolo Wind Surf Cesenatico was protocol 20.435 of 29 April 2026. The framework behind it is regional bathing ordinance 1/2019 as amended through 2025, article 10 of the Comune's maritime-demanial areas regulation approved by council deliberation n. 32 of 19 July 2021, and article 13 of municipal supplementary bathing ordinance n. 141 of 8 May 2025; maritime-authority navigation-safety prescriptions apply on top.
  • 2026: Emilia-Romagna DGR n. 561 of 20 April 2026 sets the monitored bathing season from 16 May to 27 September, and the regional bathing ordinance in BURERT n. 110/2026 puts beach-establishment activity from the Saturday before Easter to 2 November and bathing-service activity from the third weekend of May to the third weekend of September. No 2026 kite-corridor document exists for Valverde. The lane is reportedly open to riders who are not club members, unconfirmed for 2026. Elsewhere on this coast the restrictions bite: riding off a tourist beach in summer has drawn fines in Rimini.

Rider tips

  • Confirm which side you are riding: Valverde/Bagno Schiuma and the official Ponente/Via Magellano corridor are opposite ends of Cesenatico.
  • Come in spring or autumn for space and for stronger, cleaner sessions.
  • In June, July and August plan around the beach establishments and the authorized corridor; do not count on open beach launching.
  • Stay off the parallel stone breakwaters even when the water behind them is flatter.
  • With south wind at Ponente, rig close to the water: the buildings behind the beach make holes and turbulence.
  • Ride Ponente/La Madonnina at low tide; the rest of Cesenatico is tide independent.
