On the clock

10:00 · 13:00 · 16:00 · 19:00

In summer the day follows the sea breeze: near-calm at dawn, building from about 10:00, strongest between 13:00 and 16:00, easing after 19:00. Indicative, from modelled hourly data rather than a local anemometer. Bora and Levante are synoptic winds and can blow at any hour, including overnight.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Vela Club Marano is a club rather than an open beach: a sports association founded in 1989 on the Riccione seafront at Marano, running sailing and SUP as well as windsurf and kitesurf, and host to national kitesurf-circuit stages and FIV regattas.
What you get is a delimited zone and someone to ask, which on the Romagna coast in July counts for more than extra sand. Conditions are the standard Adriatic ones: flat to choppy water over a flat bottom, shore break once wind and sea build, beach traffic in summer.
Bora blows offshore at this beach, so it is the direction to think about before rigging. Intermediate is the honest level unless you are out under club instruction. No wind season has been published for the spot and no monthly statistics were found, so there is no month to point you at.
The 2026 Riccione and Emilia-Romagna rules require school activity and landing corridors to be authorized, and no club-zone map exists, so the active corridor is something to confirm with the club before you launch.

fills in: In summer the day follows the sea breeze: near-calm at dawn, building from about 10:00, strongest between 13:00 and 16:00, easing after 19:00. Indicative, from modelled hourly data rather than a local anemometer. Bora and Levante are synoptic winds and can blow at any hour, including overnight.

Typical strength

Light for most of the summer. Modelled hourly data for the point give monthly means of 5-6 knots and a 90th percentile of 8-11, with 12 knots or more in only 1-2% of June-August hours against 6-8% from November to March. Sessions come with Bora or Levante events rather than with the daily breeze. A beach station in Riccione has measured an annual mean near 3 knots with 5-knot gusts since 2012. Both are all-hours figures at 10 m and indicative rather than a kite-height measurement at the club.

Variable Adriatic coastal wind. The club organization and the delimited zones make for a more controlled launch than an unmanaged beach.
Kite activity at the club is documented, but no best-wind season is published. The spot is open all year, and no monthly wind-statistics table was found.

The quiver, in words

Indicative for 75-85 kg, read off the wind range rather than a measurement at the club: 12 m once the summer breeze reaches 12-14 knots, 9-10 m on a 17-20 knot day, 7 m when Bora or Levante blows harder. Most summer afternoons never reach kiteable strength, so the big kite does most of the work here.

Direction to shore

NE-E is onshore to side-onshore; SE is side-onshore to cross-shore; Bora/northerly wind can be offshore or side-off at this beach.

Dominant direction

N to SE are the usable directions around Marano/Riccione, in line with the rest of the Romagna coast.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rescue

No kite-specific rescue. Bathing establishments must run a bather-assistance service from 16 May to 20 September 2026, which is aimed at swimmers; outside those dates, and outside the beach frontage, there is nothing. Emergencies at sea go to 1530. Club supervision during organized activity is likely but unconfirmed.

Rules & access
2026: Riccione's Ordinanza Balneare Comunale n. 1/2026 and the regional Ordinanza Balneare published in BURERT n. 110 of 5 May 2026 set the frame. The summer bathing season runs from the Saturday before Easter to 2 November, so 4 April to 2 November 2026, with the 'Mare d'Inverno' winter season from 3 November 2026 to the Saturday before Easter 2027. Bathing establishments must run a bather-assistance service from 16 May to 20 September 2026. Inside the 500 m strip off the beach, crossing under sail or under motor is allowed only within a landing corridor authorized by the municipality; corridor applications are due by 2 May each year, and a corridor authorized in a previous year needs an activation notice to the municipality and to the maritime authority. A sailing, windsurf or kitesurf school licence is issued by the municipality only once the corresponding landing corridor has been authorized, after an opinion from the Capitaneria di Porto, and every licence holder is entered in a municipal register. Bathing is banned inside signposted landing corridors and within 150 m of port mouths. The corridor's own characteristics are set by a separate bathing-safety ordinance from the Capitaneria di Porto di Rimini, which could not be obtained; no corridor is named for kite use, so confirm the active club zone before launching.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check in with Vela Club Marano before you launch, and always during the bathing season.
  • Stay inside the club's delimited zone and follow the posted corridor instructions.
  • Think twice on Bora: it blows offshore at this beach and there is shore break behind you.
  • For a structured beginner lesson, use Spiaggia 151 or another Riccione school instead.

Getting there

Airport

Rimini Federico Fellini International Airport (RMI); Bologna Airport is the larger regional alternative.

Cost level

medium; higher in peak July-August resort season

Staying

Riccione and Marano have many seafront hotels, apartments and resort accommodation within short distance of the club.
