On the clock

11:00 · 14:00 · 16:00 · 18:00 · 19:00

Summer wind here is an afternoon sea breeze. Modelled speed is lowest overnight, starts climbing around 11:00, peaks between 14:00 and 16:00 and falls away after 18:00 to 19:00. The Bora days that give the stronger sessions follow the weather map instead and can hold through the night. Indicative modelling, no local measurement.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Lido di Savio is a family resort beach on the Ravenna coast with a real kite corridor and almost nothing published about it. Bagno Sporting Beach runs the water sports here: kitesurf courses and lessons, plus sailing, windsurf, SUP and kayak.
The beach at the corridor is narrow and the wavebreakers sit about 150 m offshore, so you cross them to reach open sea. Sand, shallow water, 26.5 C at the height of summer and 7.9 C in winter.
Through the bathing season the regional rule reserves the first 300 m from shore for swimmers except in authorized corridors, which makes the corridor the whole spot. Wind statistics, dominant direction, rescue cover and kite sizes are all unpublished for this beach, so treat it as a stop while you are in Romagna rather than something to fly for.
Ravenna is 20 km up the road and Milano Marittima is next door.

Character

fills in: Summer wind here is an afternoon sea breeze.

Typical strength

No local measurement exists. In modelled hourly wind, hours over 12 kt are roughly two to three times more common from October to May than in June, July and August, and the summer excess sits in the afternoon sea-breeze window. So the strong days belong to the cold-season and shoulder-season northerlies rather than the holiday months. Indicative only, no figure that a rider should plan a trip around.

It is on the forecast maps as a windsurf and kitesurf spot. No reliable local wind statistics exist.
The official kite corridor keeps Lido di Savio usable through summer. Seasonal wind statistics are unconfirmed.

Direction to shore

The beach faces ENE. E is straight onshore, NE arrives side-onshore from the left and SE side-onshore from the right, N is cross-shore, and anything from W or SW blows offshore. Whatever the direction, the authorised corridor is the only legal way through the 300 m bathing strip, and the wavebreakers sit about 150 m out.

Dominant direction

Bora from the NE in the cold half of the year, and a thermal E to SE sea breeze on summer afternoons. Indicative pattern taken from modelled wind, with no local station to confirm it.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

The sea off this beach is shallow, but no kite-specific depth range is confirmed.

Tides

Small but not absent. Around 0.8 m between low and high on springs at Ravenna and about 0.3 m on neaps, two of each in a day. It moves the waterline on a flat beach and changes nothing else about a session.

Temperature

26.5°C summer · 7.9°C winter

Wetsuit

No wetsuit guidance for this beach specifically. Ravenna and Cervia water runs warm through summer and cold in winter, so kit accordingly.

8–29°C water
Open northern Adriatic sandy beach on Ravenna's southern coast. The official corridor beach is narrow, with wavebreakers about 150 m offshore before open sea.

Nothing kite-specific. Cover is the beach-club system: through the bathing period, third weekend of May to third weekend of September, the concession holding the beach must run a lifeguard service, reinforced between the first Saturday of July and the fourth Sunday of August in the 12:30-14:30 window when guards would otherwise break.
Outside that period nothing is staffed and the beaches carry signs saying swimming is unsupervised. At sea the numbers are 1530 for the coastguard and 112. Bagno Sporting Beach, which runs the courses and knows the corridor, answers on +39 348 745 5540.

Launch

Bagno Sporting Beach runs sailing, windsurf and kitesurf courses and lessons. The kite corridor is official and the beach at that point is narrow.

Space

Sandy beach, reportedly narrow at the corridor.

Hazards riders report 4

  • Narrow beach at the kite corridor.
  • Wavebreakers about 150 m offshore.
  • Beach-user pressure during the summer bathing season
  • Jet-ski training area at Sporting Beach is mentioned by local listings, so kiters should verify local separation on site
Rules & access
2026: the Emilia-Romagna bathing ordinance, n. 1/2019 as amended by determination 8398 of 29 April 2026, reserves the sea for 300 m from the shoreline for swimming along the whole regional coast from the mouth of the Po di Goro to Cattolica. That limit must be marked by the beach concession in front with a line of red, orange or white buoys set parallel to the shore no more than 100 m apart, replaced within 24 hours if one is lost. Crossing the strip under sail or power is forbidden except inside a landing corridor authorised by the municipality, and swimming inside a marked corridor is itself banned. A kitesurf or windsurf school licence is issued by the municipal offices only once the corridor authorisation exists, and the holder is entered in a municipal register. The bathing period runs every year from the third weekend of May to the third weekend of September; outside it neither the municipality nor the beach clubs have to provide a lifeguard service, and the beach must be signed to say so. Bathing is also prohibited inside marked landing corridors, within 150 m of regional harbour mouths, within 100 m of breakwaters under construction and within 50 m of sea-water intake and discharge pipes.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Call Bagno Sporting Beach before you drive out; they know where the corridor is and whether it is open.
  • Ask on site where the jet-ski training area starts and stay off it.
  • In summer, treat the first 300 m from shore as swimmers' water unless you are inside the authorized corridor.
  • Bologna (BLQ) is about 1 h 12-16 min away by road; Forli (FRL) at about 25 km is closer if the flights work.
  • Call Bagno Sporting Beach on +39 348 745 5540 before you drive out; they know where the corridor is and whether it is open.
  • Ask on site where the jet-ski training circuit starts and stay off it.
  • In summer, treat the first 300 m from shore as swimmers' water unless you are inside the authorised corridor; the buoy line marking it should be no more than 100 m between buoys.
  • Outside the third weekend of May to the third weekend of September there is no lifeguard duty on this coast at all.
  • Forli at 32 km by road is the closest airport if the flights work; Bologna is about 1 h 25.
  • The wind that makes this coast worth a session is the cold-season NE, not the summer breeze.
