Vakarbuļļi is the Gulf of Riga beach at the north-west edge of Riga, west of Daugavgrīva, and it is where the city's kiters, wingfoilers and windsurfers go after work.
Ķīšezers is a lake inside Riga with four named riding areas rather than one beach: Jaunciema osta, Cabo/Klubs 360, Mailīšu iela and Trīsciems.
Daugavgrīva sits on the west bank where the Daugava meets the Gulf of Riga, inside Riga's own city limits, in the Bolderāja district.
Vecāķi is the Gulf of Riga beach at the northern edge of Latvia's capital, and the access is the best thing about it: the train from Riga Central Station takes about 25 minutes, then about a 10-minute walk through pine forest puts you on the sand.

Riga works as a city kite base only if you accept commuting to the edges: the rideable spots are spread between Gulf beaches and the Ķīšezers lake access, not downtown sand.

Which spots are there and who are they for?
Riga offers Gulf of Riga beaches at Vakarbuļļi and Vecāķi for open-water sessions, the sheltered inland Ķīšezers lake for flatter riding, and Daugavgrīva at the Daugava river mouth for advanced wave riding.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Ķīšezers lake is flatter than the Gulf beaches and is the more usual choice for less experienced riders, while Daugavgrīva is described as an advanced-level spot.
What is the wind like?
At Vecāķi the most useful wind blows from the west through north sector, with northwesterly considered the best direction.
