Ķīšezers is a lake inside Riga with four named riding areas rather than one beach: Jaunciema osta, Cabo/Klubs 360, Mailīšu iela and Trīsciems. Which one you drive to depends on the direction of the day, and that choice matters more than the map pin.

Water type and conditions

The water is flat next to the Gulf beaches, which is what brings the foilers and the twintip riders, and NW in spring can come in as a thermal rather than a front.

Which spot for your level

Jaunciema osta is the one with a documented character problem: gusty, wind-shadowed, concrete blocks in the water, and no place for a first lesson. Beginners belong at Trīsciems. At Jaunciems the bottom is already at 2 m about 15 m out, so there is no long shallow shelf to stand in and untangle a bar, and you get small waves, paid parking and a marina on the same shoreline.

Jaunciema osta is a private club and water-sports site: parking is paid, around 3 euro, and getting in can mean calling the number on the fence to have the gate opened.

An older listing quoting a 2-lats entry fee predates the 2014 euro changeover and should not be relied on.
