Adam's Bridge is the western tip of Mannar Island, out past Talaimannar, and the riding happens on shallow sandbanks: flat water on the sheltered side, chop or small waves on the windward side.

Seasons

The southwest monsoon from May to October is the season people come for, with mornings around 15-18 kt and 25+ knots by lunchtime. A northeast season runs roughly December to February or January to March, but the northern flat-water side is reportedly closed from mid-December to the end of February for migratory birds, so a winter trip built around the flats can arrive to find them shut.

Logistics and safety

This is a camp spot, not a beach town. There is lodging, instruction and a rescue boat in high season, and the nearest shop is a 30-minute drive. What catches people out is depth: some sections are ankle-deep and impossible to read from a moving board, so ask where it is safe to jump before you start. The Sri Lankan side sits in or next to Adam's Bridge Marine National Park, so check current DWC permission and local zoning before you commit to a trip.
