modelled
A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.
Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth
No measured profile has been published. The sea here is tideless, so what you find at the waterline holds all day. The entry is sand with small stones along the shoreline and water shoes are the usual advice for anyone learning; how far out you can stand is unconfirmed.
Tides
Tide independent.
Temperature
24°C summer · 14°C winter
Wetsuit
Shorts in summer; 3/4 or full wetsuit commonly needed from November to May.

Launch
Large sandy beach in the industrial and camping area around Cami de la Pomareda, north of Malgrat de Mar. The sand at the end of the track is the Punta de la Tordera beach: 1,045 m long, roughly 30 m wide, golden sand, low occupancy, showers, and an unsupervised car park of 50-100 spaces that is easy to use outside summer.Campsites sit behind it and the beach runs up to the Tordera river mouth and the delta bird reserve.

Rules & access
Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.
Rider tips
- Pick a SW Garbi day for clean freeride or a lesson; 8-20 knots and far less gust than the E.
- Park and rig in the industrial and campsite zone off Camí de la Pomareda, not on the central Malgrat beach.
- Read the signage at the access before you pump: the summer closure is real and the boundaries are not published.
- Take a wave board or a strapless setup for E and SE days, when the sets build and the wind gets punchy.
- Bring a 3/4 or full wetsuit from November to May; shorts only cover summer.

FAQ
When is the best time?
March to September, when the SW Garbi thermal is most reliable.
What is the wind like?
SW Garbi is the cleanest direction at 8-20 knots; E and SE winds run stronger and gustier, often 15-30 knots, and turn the spot into a wave venue.
Are there rules?
Summer kite restrictions apply in 2026, with July and August weekend kitesurfing forbidden and a southern 3 km area allowed but harder to access.
Is it suitable for beginners?
Some guides call the wide, obstacle-free beach good for learning in lighter SW wind, while others rate it intermediate, so treat beginner use as condition-dependent.
Is there room to launch?
The beach spans over 1.5 km in the industrial and campsite zone north of town and is normally not crowded with bathers.
