Sant Pere Pescador
A wide, sandy 7km beach on the Bay of Roses that is the flagship kitesurf beach of the whole Golf de Roses and one of the best-known kite destinations in Europe. Its huge, shallow, sandy-bottomed bay and open, flat launch area have made it the home of a dense cluster of international kite schools and campsites, and it has hosted major professional freestyle/big-air competitions. The Aiguamolls de l'Empordà wetlands sit just behind the beach.

Wind
| best months |
|
|---|---|
| season notes | Rideable in some form nearly year-round. The Tramuntana (strong NW wind funneling down from the Pyrenees) can arrive in any season and blows hard, sometimes for days; the Garbí is a gentler SE thermal sea breeze that fills in on summer afternoons and is the classic learn-to-kite wind here. |
| avg knots | 12-30 |
| wind name | Tramuntana (NW) / Garbí (SE thermal) |
| direction to shore | cross-shore (both main directions) |
| quality | steady |
| typical kite sizes | 7-14m |
Water
| type | flat |
|---|---|
| wetsuit | boardshorts/shorty in high summer, 3/2 or thicker in shoulder season |
| standing depth | Large sandy bay that is shallow and standing-depth well out from shore in many areas, a big reason it suits beginners. |
Levels
| beginner | yes |
|---|---|
| intermediate | yes |
| advanced | yes |
| notes | The scale and consistency of the bay caters to everyone: dedicated beginner zones near the schools, open flat water for freestyle and big air pros, and enough space to spread riders out even on a busy day. |
Launch & crowd
| description | Wide open sandy beach with dedicated space in front of each campsite/school; plenty of room to rig even when busy. |
|---|---|
| rescue | Boat rescue and safety cover available through the resident kite schools/clubs. |
| busy months |
|
| vibe | One of Europe's biggest kite scenes - a long strip of beachside campsites (many kiter-oriented, e.g. Nautic Almata, La Ballena Alegre area) and schools, lively and very international in summer. |
Monthly wind statistics
Station: Sant Pere Pescador (Weather Spark composite: Girona-Costa Brava Airport 64%, Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport 36%) (weatherspark.com (MERRA-2 reanalysis), ~3.3 km) — Weather Spark's Sant Pere Pescador page is a named local page (~3 km from the beach) built from Girona and Perpignan airport data, so it is a fairly direct proxy for the Tramontana/Gulf of Roses wind regime. windfinder.com returned HTTP 429 (rate-limited/blocked) on every attempt during this run, so no windfinder windstatistics page could be fetched; used Weather Spark (MERRA-2 reanalysis, 1980-2016) as fallback. No probability of wind >=4 Bft is published by Weather Spark, so prob_ge_4bft_pct is null throughout; avg_knots is the mean hourly wind speed and dominant_dir is a coarse seasonal approximation (not a true per-month wind rose). No water temperature figures were found for any of these stations.

Hazards
- Tramuntana can be very strong and gusty when it blows hard - not a day for beginners
- very busy launch areas near the main schools/campsites in peak summer
Rules
- Numerous schools operate designated teaching zones along the beach - respect marked lesson areas.
Tips
- Camp right on the beach at one of the kite-oriented campsites for direct beach access
- Afternoons are prime time for the Garbí thermal to build in summer
- Big Tramuntana days pull freestyle/big-air riders here from across Europe - go smaller kite and expect gusty offshore-feeling bay chop near the northern end
