Kitesurfing in Catalonia

17 spots · 5 destinations · 18 schools

Catalonia runs on two winds depending on where you are: the afternoon Garbi thermal that makes Castelldefels the default Barcelona beach, and the Tramuntana that turns Platja de Pals and Empuriabrava-Rubina into proper wave spots when it blows hard from the north.

Further south, Riumar in the Ebro Delta is a Mestral-driven autumn-to-spring spot, and Segur de Calafell picks up Levante swell breaking along its marina wall — fifteen beaches in all, mostly urban, mostly wind-direction specific.

Catalonia holds 17 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 5 destinations. Something is rideable here in every month of the year. 9 of them suits beginners. 18 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Barcelona coast, Costa Brava - Golf de Roses and Ebro Delta.
