Diani is East Africa's kite hub: a long white reef-protected beach 30km south of Mombasa with a genuine cluster of established kite schools, decent tourist infrastructure, and a laid-back-but-not-sleepy resort strip. It works well for intermediate progression riders who want flat water and warm 25C+ conditions without the crowding of Cape Town or the razzle of Tarifa, and it pairs naturally with a Kenyan safari. It is not a wild off-grid trip - you're on a developed, fairly touristy stretch with malaria risk, occasional petty crime, and a road/ferry approach that eats a chunk of your travel day - and it is not for anyone wanting Euro-style nightlife density or car-free convenience.
