History & trivia

Halland (the region including Varberg) only became permanently Swedish in 1658 via the Treaty of Roskilde, after centuries of Danish-Swedish conflict.
Swedish bishop Esaias Tegnér called Varberg 'the least appealing place in Sweden' in 1826 - the town now uses the quote in its own marketing.
