Spiaggia di Barricata

also known as Lido di Barricata, Porto Barricata, Barricata Beach

Nearby Lido di Volano 17 km · straight-line distance

Barricata is the sea-beach half of a Po Delta operation in Porto Tolle: the base sits at Lido Barricata from April to September, then moves inland to Sacca del Canarin and Sacca degli Scardovari from October to March.
On the lagoon days the water is shallow and quiet, which is why beginners and freestylers end up here; on the open beach you get ordinary Adriatic chop and small surf. The winds that count are Bora from the NE and Sirocco from the SE.
No long-term wind statistics exist for Barricata itself, so nobody can tell you which month is windiest. The 2026 Porto Tolle ordinance fixes the bathing season at 23 May to 20 September 2026, sets bathing-zone markers at 300 m and safe-water markers at 50 m, and posts public hours for the floating footbridge you cross to reach the beach.
Exact kite corridor boundaries are not published, so ask before you rig. Summer water is 26.6 C; February averages 8.7 C and a full winter suit. Come in the warm half of the year unless you are happy alone in a cold delta with the services shut.

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Shallow lagoon water on the winter venues; the Porto Tolle beaches shelve gently over sand.

Tides

Semidiurnal and small; the astronomical range is not what decides a session here. Weather is. Sirocco with low pressure pushes northern Adriatic levels well above the predicted tide, and the Po Delta is one of the places that floods when it does.No tide gauge is published for Barricata itself, so the range is regional rather than measured, and lagoon depth is read off the day rather than off a table.

Temperature

26.6°C summer · 8.7°C winter

Wetsuit

Summer water is warm; February averages below 9 C, so winter riding requires a full winter wetsuit.

9–28°C water
The riding splits by season. From April to September it is the open Adriatic off Lido Barricata, with normal chop and small surf; from October to March it is the lagoons, Laguna del Canarin and Sacca degli Scardovari, shallow and quiet enough for lessons and freestyle.
Porto Tolle sea temperatures give a warm swimming season from May to October, and forecast wave heights on the day sampled were small. That is one snapshot, not a permanent flat-water guarantee.

Rescue

+39 351 711 8038

A support motorboat covers the school's kite area through the summer, and municipal rules tie beach rescue duty to the managed beach service during the bathing season.
From October to March the base moves inland to the lagoons, the boat is not on the water and the delta is close to empty, so plan on self-rescue and bring a phone you can reach. The school answers on +39 351 711 8038; sea emergencies go to the Coast Guard on the national number 1530.

Launch

From April to September the base is at Lido Barricata, Via Strada del Mare, Porto Tolle, where the school holds a reserved kite area with its own marked launch corridors, parking, changing rooms and a bar. The corridor boundaries are not published. The holiday village behind the beach allows windsurfing and kitesurfing off its own sand with your own gear; its number is +39 0426 389270. From October to March the operation moves to Laguna del Canarin and Sacca degli Scardovari.

Rules & access
Comune di Porto Tolle ordinance n. 49/2026 runs from 16 May 2026 to 14 May 2027 and fixes the 2026 bathing season at 23 May to 20 September 2026. It puts bathing-zone markers at 300 m and safe-water markers at 50 m or equivalent signs, regulates rescue-service signage, and posts public access hours for the Barricata floating footbridge.
The 2026 Guardia Costiera Chioggia bathing-safety ordinance applies alongside it. Wording for a kitesurf corridor at Barricata is unconfirmed.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ask the school where the corridor runs before you rig, above all inside the 23 May-20 September 2026 bathing season.
  • Check the posted hours for the Barricata floating footbridge before you plan a late session.
  • Take the lagoons, Sacca del Canarin or Sacca degli Scardovari, when the beach wind angle is awkward or you want flatter water.
  • Bring everything you need from October to March: the delta is remote and the services are seasonal.
  • Pack a full winter suit for February, when the water sits at 8.7 C.
  • Use the school's reserved area and its corridors rather than picking your own patch of the village beach.
  • Ring ahead from October to March: the base is on the lagoons then and the summer support boat is not out.
