Dąbki (Lake Bukowo) has no other spot on this map within 40 km of it. straight-line distance

Dąbki is two spots in one, a strip of Western Pomerania with Lake Bukowo on one side and the open Baltic on the other. The lake is the forgiving half: flat to choppy, big shallows, grass and sand to lay a kite out on.
The sea side is a long sandy beach that turns choppy with small to medium waves when the wind goes northerly or simply gets stronger. March-May and September-November are the months to plan around, with a summer sea breeze that shows up in July.
The bases that still operate sit on the Gleźnowo shore in the south-east rather than the old Dąbki side, so drive to the water you actually want. July and August put holidaymakers on the sea beach, and launch space there needs checking on the day.

fills in: The July sea breeze runs from around 11:00 to about 18:00.

Typical strength

Working range is 12-20 knots, with the spring and autumn frontal days pushing 25 and over. Daytime averages over this stretch of coast sit near 10-12 knots: roughly a third of March-May and September-November afternoons reach 12 knots or more, and in June and August it is closer to one afternoon in six. Those percentages are reanalysis grid figures, not a local sensor.

Frontal wind with a local summer sea-breeze component; west is wavy with steadier wind, east is side-off and gustier/cyclic, and northwest is onshore with small waves.
Best kite months are March-May and September-November. The local base runs from the second half of June to mid-September, and a July sea breeze fills in on top of the frontal wind.

The quiver, in words

For 75-85 kg a 12 m covers the common 12-16 knot days and a 9 m the 17-22 knot ones; add a 7 m for the frontal spring and autumn days. Indicative sizing off the local wind band, since no base here publishes a size chart.

Direction to shore

West comes in with waves and even wind, and the first 200 m off the Gleźnowo shore stays flat under it. East is side-off there: very flat, but it blows in cycles with holes in between, and it usually turns up on warm days. Northwest is onshore, small wave, steady, and often does not show in the forecast at all.South to SSW is the direction the lake itself likes best.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from the operational forecast archive at 1.5–7 km (2023-2024), daylight hours only, not a ground station: it resolves thermal, lake and valley winds far better than coarse reanalysis but still tends to understate a strong local thermal. A windy day has at least three consecutive daylight hours at 12 knots or more. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Lake Bukowo is shallow everywhere, 1.8 m on average and 2.8 m at its deepest point, so you are never far out of your depth on it. Off the Gleźnowo shore the first 200 m is flat and shallow. Figures for the shallow belt itself range from about 100 m to 400 m depending on which shore is being measured.

Tides

tide-independent (Baltic lake/sea spot)

Temperature

Summer up to 22

Wetsuit

Usually a wetsuit is needed; shorts or shorty can work on warm high-summer days, normal suit in spring/fall, thick suit in winter.

The spot combines Lake Bukowo flat-to-choppy water with an open Baltic beach where small-to-medium waves build with stronger wind.

Your level

beginnerintermediateadvanced
Lake Bukowo's shallow flat water is suited to beginners and progression; stronger winds and the Baltic sea side add chop, waves, and more advanced riding.

Rescue

The Wind4You base at Gleźnowo keeps a lifeguard watching the water through its opening hours and sends its safety craft out when someone needs it; launch from the base and you are inside that cover. Balticsurf watches its own lessons from motorboats and pontoons. Nothing is documented for independent riders outside base hours or away from the bases.

Launch

Lake side has grass and sand launching; the Gleźnowo bases sit on the south-east shore with a sandy water entry, while the Baltic side is a long sandy beach.

Space

Medium. The launch reportedly moved from Dąbki to the far side of the lake for more room.

Rules & access
2026: no kite-specific rule was found and nothing is posted on the beach, so check the current base and commune setup before launching. The lake and its shore sit inside a Natura 2000 area and inside the spa protection zone of the Dąbki resort; no kite restriction attached to either was found.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Learn on the lake side and leave the open Baltic beach until you can ride upwind.
  • Phone a lakeside base when northwest is forecast; it often turns up here even when the forecast undercalls it.
  • Treat east wind at Gleźnowo carefully: it comes in side-off and cyclic.
  • Aim for the second half of June to mid-September if you need the base open for rental or cover on the water.
  • Drive to Gleźnowo on the south-east shore, not to Dąbki: that is where the bases moved.
  • A 12 m and a 9 m cover most days for a 75-85 kg rider; the 7 m earns its place in spring and autumn.
