Good to know before you go2
Punta Entinas-Sabinar is a teaching beach on the Almeria coast, between Almerimar and Roquetas de Mar, inside a protected paraje natural of dunes, wetlands and bird habitat.
In seasonJun to Sep
The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 15.7 kt in March, the strongest month it models for this spot.
More on Punta Entinas-Sabinar
Courses run there daily from June to September, built around levante, and the wind arrives with nothing upwind to break it. There is a lot of open sand, so rigging has margin. The catch is access and depth. Vehicles are not allowed on the beach, and the water off it is called deep and calm, which sits badly with the flat-water beginner picture. No municipal or park document was found that authorises or bans kitesurfing at the exact launch, so permission is unconfirmed and worth asking about locally before you unroll lines in a reserve. Wind statistics for the beach itself do not exist publicly; the nearest station, Almerimar, gives a 7 kts annual average from old 2012-2017 observations, which tells you little about a levante afternoon. Go with a school or someone who knows where the reserve boundaries fall.
Getting on the water
Open sandy beach inside the natural reserve, worked by mobile school operations. Plenty of sand to rig with margin.
If it goes wrong
The beach carries no seasonal services, which means no lifeguard post and no rescue cover for an independent rider; the emergency number is 112. Lessons come with activity insurance and transfers, and going out with the school van is the practical cover on an eleven-kilometre stretch of empty coast.
Rules and access
The launch sits inside the Paraje Natural Punta Entinas-Sabinar, 1,971.72 hectares across El Ejido and Roquetas de Mar, declared a paraje natural and ZEPA in 1989 and a ZEC in 2017, with a stricter reserva natural inside it where any activity liable to alter the natural systems is prohibited unless specifically authorised. On the beach the published bans are vehicle access and dogs (2026). No park or municipal text was found that either authorises or forbids kitesurfing at the launch itself, so ask before you rig and stay out of the reserve core.
Almerimar works with poniente, the west wind on the El Ejido coast, and Almeria wind generally sits in the 18-35 knot band depending on direction.
In seasonno month named for this spot
The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 14.8 kt in March, the strongest month it models for this spot.
More on Almerimar
Playa de Poniente is a serviced residential beach: calm water most days, coarse sand, medium-high occupancy, and on windy days it is the local reference for surf and windsurf. Club Kite Surf activity is documented at Playa Poniente Almerimar, so the launch is a working club beach rather than a directory entry. The season problem is blunt. Kitesurfing is not allowed from 15 June to 15 September, which removes the whole summer, and the municipal beach layout includes balizamiento and a nautical channel that can move from year to year. Come in spring or autumn, and read the buoying on the sand before you rig. Nobody has published a station average for the launch itself, so the knot range is a regional figure rather than a local one.
Getting on the water
Beach launch on Playa de Poniente/Almerimar near the former club beach and the Club Kite Surf area. Beach services include sports activity plus balizamiento and a nautical channel.
If it goes wrong
Seasonal lifeguard cover runs on Playa de Poniente, which is swimmer service inside the buoyed zone rather than kite rescue; no kite-specific cover is published. Offshore, maritime emergencies go to Salvamento Maritimo on 900 202 202, to 112, or on VHF channel 16 (2026).
Rules and access
2026: kitesurfing at Almerimar is reported to be off from 15 June to 15 September, but no El Ejido municipal ordinance confirming those dates could be found - the published index of municipal ordinances carries nothing on beaches at all - so treat the window as unconfirmed and ask a local school or the club before booking around it. The beach also carries balizamiento marking the swimming zone and a nautical channel for craft, both of which can be laid out differently from year to year; read the buoys on the sand before you rig.
Las Salinas is the Roquetas de Mar beach riders move to when the wind gets too strong for the town beaches.
In seasonno month named for this spot
The model here carries the month's average wind rather than a count of windy days: it reaches 11.7 kt in March, the strongest month it models for this spot.
More on Las Salinas
Which wind you want is not settled: Poniente from the W/SW is the more consistently favoured direction, though Levante gets called the good one here too. The water is open Mediterranean: chop and small waves, with open sand and room to rig on the Punta Entinas side. Kitesurfing is off from 15 June to 15 September, which is the standard Almeria bathing-season pattern, so this is a spring, autumn and winter spot. Initiation courses ran at Playa de las Salinas in 2014, but whether an independent beginner belongs here now is unconfirmed, so treat it as intermediate and up. Nobody has published typical knots or a standing depth for this beach.
Getting on the water
Beach launch on Playa de las Salinas at Roquetas de Mar, an urban beach 1,330 m long named after the old San Rafael salt pans, with open sand and room to lay out lines on the Punta Entinas side. The lifeguard tower and two live beach cameras sit at the Avenida Union Europea access.
If it goes wrong
A municipal lifeguard tower stands on the beach at the Avenida Union Europea access, mapped as staffed daily 12:00-20:00 through the school-holiday season, on +34 950 321 432. Outside those weeks and those hours there is nobody. No kite-specific rescue is documented, and whether the tower would put a boat out for a kiter blown offshore is unconfirmed - which matters more here than at most beaches, because the Poniente that riders come for blows off the land.
Rules and access
2026: Roquetas de Mar and Playa de las Salinas are reported closed to kitesurfing from 15 June to 15 September, the same dates given for El Zapillo in Almeria city and for Almerimar. That closure does not appear on the municipality's own Las Salinas beach page, which presents the beach as suited to every kind of nautical sport and publishes no kite restriction, and no municipal ordinance text setting the dates was found. Treat the summer closure as real and confirm the beach access and any nautical channel locally before rigging. 2026: a municipal lifeguard tower on the beach is listed as staffed daily 12:00-20:00 through the school holidays.

4 recurring claims
Punta Entinas is the cleanest beginner story in this stretch: open beach, flat-to-chop water, and fewer beach users than the resort fronts.
majority×4 riders
You need a car and some flexibility; schools and spot pages talk about choosing the day’s beach by wind instead of staying on one fixed launch.
majority×3 riders
Almerimar and the club-beach side feel more serviced, but also more exposed to normal summer beach traffic and hard objects around the waterline.
majority×3 riders
The nature-reserve setting is a real plus, but first-timers should not expect a polished resort beach once they go into the wilder parts.

When do kite lessons run here?
Teaching at Punta Entinas-Sabinar runs Levante-facing between June and September, on flat water with open sand for rigging.
Is the area protected?
Yes - Punta Entinas-Sabinar sits inside a protected natural area, so check local rules before rigging or riding.
What wind works at Almerimar?
Poniente, with Almeria winds generally in the 18-35 knot range depending on direction; Playa de Poniente is a serviced residential beach.
What about Las Salinas?
Sources differ on the ideal direction - some favor Levante, others Poniente - so it isn't fully consistent; lessons in the area are generally run at Punta Entinas-Sabinar.
Out of ten, one place against another. The percentage beside a figure is how much of this record that figure had to work from, so a high score on a thin record is a thin score.
