Punta Entinas-Sabinar is a teaching beach on the Almeria coast, between Almerimar and Roquetas de Mar, inside a protected paraje natural of dunes, wetlands and bird habitat. Courses run there daily from June to September, built around levante, and the wind arrives with nothing upwind to break it. There is a lot of open sand, so rigging has margin.
The catch is access and depth. Vehicles are not allowed on the beach, and the water off it is called deep and calm, which sits badly with the flat-water beginner picture.
No municipal or park document was found that authorises or bans kitesurfing at the exact launch, so permission is unconfirmed and worth asking about locally before you unroll lines in a reserve.
Wind statistics for the beach itself do not exist publicly; the nearest station, Almerimar, gives a 7 kts annual average from old 2012-2017 observations, which tells you little about a levante afternoon. Go with a school or someone who knows where the reserve boundaries fall.

Typical strength

Nothing is measured at this beach. The Almerimar station, 2012 to 2017, averages about 7 kt over the year with SW the commonest direction, which is a marina reading rather than a levante afternoon. No strength distribution for the levante days the courses are built around has been published.

Reportedly clean wind, with no obstacles upwind of the beach.
Teaching runs daily from June to September in Almeria, with the kite program built around levante. Month-by-month wind figures for Punta Entinas itself do not exist publicly.

Also on record

7 kts annual average at the nearby Almerimar station, from old 2012-2017 observations. Indicative only.

The quiver, in words

No local quiver has been recorded. Indicative only, for a 75-85 kg rider on a working levante: 9-12 m, with a 7 m for the days strong enough that schools move round to Las Salinas. On the light days that the annual 7 kt average implies, nothing flies.

Direction to shore

The strand runs west-southwest to east-northeast and faces roughly south-southeast, so the levante easterly comes in side-on along the beach and a poniente westerly blows from behind the dunes, cross-offshore. Derived from the coastline, not from a beach survey.

Dominant direction

Levante. SE days go to Cabo de Gata instead, and very strong days to Las Salinas.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

The water

Standing depth

Deep and calm water off a fine-sand beach: no wadeable shelf, bank or lagoon has been documented here, so assume you are swimming as soon as you are past the shorebreak. That sits badly against the flat-water label this beach also carries, and it is the single thing worth asking about before booking a first course.

Tides

Barely a tide. Almeria runs highs near 0.28 m and lows near 0.06 m, a range of roughly 20-25 cm, so the shoreline hardly moves and nothing about the launch changes with the hour.

Temperature

25.3°C summer · 14.8°C winter

Wetsuit

Neoprene comes with the lesson kit. Summer is warm and winter needs a full suit, going by Roquetas de Mar water temperatures.

16–28°C water
Flat water, reportedly. The same beach is also called deep and calm, which leaves the standing depth unresolved for beginner use.

Your level

beginnerintermediateadvanced
Initiation, autonomy and single-session coaching are sold here, IKO method, with instructor supervision. Independent beginner suitability is unconfirmed: public tourism material calls the beach deep.

Rescue

The beach carries no seasonal services, which means no lifeguard post and no rescue cover for an independent rider; the emergency number is 112. Lessons come with activity insurance and transfers, and going out with the school van is the practical cover on an eleven-kilometre stretch of empty coast.

Launch

Open sandy beach inside the natural reserve, worked by mobile school operations. Plenty of sand to rig with margin.

Hazards riders report 9

  • protected natural reserve
  • remote beach logistics
  • protected natural reserve and paraje natural restrictions
  • no vehicle access onto the beach
  • deep water reported close to shore
  • environmentally sensitive dunes, wetlands and bird habitat
  • official kite permission unconfirmed
  • No seasonal services on the beach: no lifeguard, no rescue cover for independent riders.
  • Eleven kilometres of unbuilt coast reached on tracks through the reserve: a long way back with broken gear.
Rules & access
The launch sits inside the Paraje Natural Punta Entinas-Sabinar, 1,971.72 hectares across El Ejido and Roquetas de Mar, declared a paraje natural and ZEPA in 1989 and a ZEC in 2017, with a stricter reserva natural inside it where any activity liable to alter the natural systems is prohibited unless specifically authorised.
On the beach the published bans are vehicle access and dogs (2026). No park or municipal text was found that either authorises or forbids kitesurfing at the launch itself, so ask before you rig and stay out of the reserve core.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Ask locally before you rig; the launch is inside a protected reserve and the permitted area is not publicly documented.
  • Do not drive onto the beach, vehicle access is prohibited. Park outside and carry the gear in.
  • Take a school or a local for the first session: no public rescue cover for independent riders is published here.
  • Aim for June to September, when the courses run daily and the levante is working.
  • On an SE day go to Cabo de Gata, and on a very strong day to Las Salinas.
  • Do not drive onto the beach, vehicle access is prohibited, and dogs are not allowed either. Park outside and carry the gear in.
  • Take a school or a local for the first session: the beach has no seasonal services, which means no lifeguard and no rescue cover.
  • Ask about depth before booking a first course: this water is graded deep and calm, not shallow.
