Kitesurfing in Andalusia
36 spots · 10 destinations · 59 schools
Thirty-six spots on the same two winds: Levante out of the east, Poniente out of the west.
Tarifa is the engine. Los Lances Norte is the wide-sand workhorse where the schools all sit, Valdevaqueros runs on either wind, and Balneario, the strip between the port and the Isla de las Palomas causeway, is expert ground. West along Cádiz and Huelva the Poniente is gentler, 12-25 knots, with flat water behind the sandbars at El Rompido and El Portil. The Costa Tropical is thin: La Herradura reaches 12 knots on about 34 days a year. Almería picks it up again at 18-35.
Andalusia holds 36 kitesurf spots in our atlas, grouped into 10 destinations. Riding here is mostly chop, flat water, waves and lagoons. Something is rideable here in every month of the year.
22 of them suits beginners. 59 schools operate in the region. The busiest areas are Cadiz coast, Tarifa and Andalucía mediterránea — Punta Entinas-Sabinar to Las Salinas.

Los LancesTarifa2026has a date window2026: Los Lances Norte is open to kitesurfing all year, but from 15 June to 15 September the beach is divided into marked bathing, kite-school and independent-rider zones, the same summer split applied to the other main Tarifa beaches.
ValdevaquerosTarifa2024has a date window2024-2027: the municipal beach plan for Tarifa maps Valdevaqueros with buoyed, signed zones on both the sand and the water: exclusive kitesurf-school areas (six are listed for this beach, three with a permanent module), an exclusive windsurf/paddle school area, bathing-only zones, safety channels and an exclusive entry-and-exit channel for free kitesurf and windsurf practice.
El PalmarCadiz coast2026two versions2026: no municipal document sets kitesurf zones, dates or hours for El Palmar, and two versions circulate: a flat summer kite ban, or merely restricted areas in peak season.

Punta PalomaTarifa2026has a date window2026: kitesurfing is allowed at Punta Paloma all year round.
AlmerimarEl Ejido, Almería2026has a date window2026: kitesurfing at Almerimar is reported to be off from 15 June to 15 September, but no El Ejido municipal ordinance confirming those dates could be found - the published index of municipal ordinances carries nothing on beaches at all - so treat the window as unconfirmed and ask a local school or the club before booking around it.

CortaduraCádiz20202020: the Cádiz beach users' code of conduct, issued under the municipal beach ordinance, bans practising sport of any kind — football, bat games, surf, windsurf, kitesurf — outside the zones and hours set aside for it, so the designated stretch and its timetable are what govern a session here.
El ChaparralMijas, Costa del Sol2026has a date window2026: El Chaparral is on the municipal beach plan as a kitesurf site.
El PortilHuelva20262026: summer navigation lanes at El Electrico and La Culata separate boat traffic from swimmers and riders, and they have been part of the beach layout since at least 2016. No Punta Umbria or Cartaya beach ordinance confirming the dates or the boundaries could be found, so the marked lanes and the buoys on the sand are the only reliable version - read them before you rig.
El RompidoHuelva20252025: there is no dedicated kite zone at El Rompido, and kitesurfing is not prohibited in the estuary or on the Flecha. In summer, keep clear of bathers and rig toward the east of the busier ferry and beach areas.

MatalascañasHuelva20262026: summer kiting is legal only by entering and exiting through properly marked nautical channels, and some seasons may have kite zones toward the old campsite/Mazagón side depending on that year's municipal grant; a current official Almonte kite-zone map was not found.
