Levante and Poniente
10:00 · 15:00 · 17:00 · 19:00 · 22:00
A daily sea-breeze cycle sits under whatever synoptic wind is running. Averaged over the year the modelled wind holds around 4.4 knots through the night, starts lifting near 10:00, is past the night value by midday and peaks around 8.5 knots between 15:00 and 17:00, then drops from 19:00 and is back to the night level by 22:00. A real Levante or Poniente day overrides that and blows through. Modelled reanalysis at the coordinate, no local anemometer record.
The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

fills in: A daily sea-breeze cycle sits under whatever synoptic wind is running. Typical strength
18-35 kt when Almeria is blowing hard; 3-5 Bft is the band given for Roquetas de Mar.
The quiver, in words
School stock across the Almeria area runs 6 m to 14 m; no spot-specific rider-weight recommendation was found.
Direction to shore
The shoreline here runs northeast to southwest, so the beach looks out east-southeast. Levante off the sea arrives cross-onshore, about 30 degrees off square to the sand, which is the safe case.Poniente is the other story: a southwest Poniente comes across the beach, and a due-west one comes off the land, which is where the flat water comes from and why that direction wants a plan for getting back. Worked out from the mapped coastline orientation, not from a rider's report.
Dominant direction
W/SW (Poniente) is the more consistently favoured kitesurf wind at Las Salinas. E (Levante) also blows here, but it is less liked locally.

modelled
A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.
Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Rules & access
- 2026: Roquetas de Mar and Playa de las Salinas are reported closed to kitesurfing from 15 June to 15 September, the same dates given for El Zapillo in Almeria city and for Almerimar. That closure does not appear on the municipality's own Las Salinas beach page, which presents the beach as suited to every kind of nautical sport and publishes no kite restriction, and no municipal ordinance text setting the dates was found. Treat the summer closure as real and confirm the beach access and any nautical channel locally before rigging.
- 2026: a municipal lifeguard tower on the beach is listed as staffed daily 12:00-20:00 through the school holidays.
Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.
Rider tips
- Check the exact beach access and any nautical channel before you rig in the bathing season; from 15 June to 15 September the default answer is no.
- Treat the Levante versus Poniente advice as unsettled and ask a school or a local rider on the morning.
- Pack for strong wind: school stock across Almeria runs 6 m to 14 m, and Las Salinas is where people go when it is honking.
- Come in spring or autumn: spring suits experienced riders around Roquetas, and autumn mixes west and east days.
