On the clock

14:00

Mornings are usually the light part. The thermal reinforcement tends to arrive around 14:00 and holds to sunset. Poniente can also blow synoptically, in which case it is up well before lunch. Indicative — the 14:00 figure is given for Camposoto as a whole.

The marks are the clock times the record names, laid on a 24-hour day. The bar between the first and the last covers those hours; it is not a promise of wind.

Punta del Boqueron is the south tip of Camposoto beach, looking straight across at the Castillo de Sancti Petri. Poniente from SW-W is the wind that works here, roughly 12-25 knots, and the old Roman causeway running from the castle toward Cadiz takes the Atlantic swell off the water, so the channel and the strip inside the point stay flat enough for freeride and for grinding out new tricks.
Current decides your session more than wind strength does: ride the slack-water windows, and treat Levante as a tide problem, because you want low water for standing area and low water is exactly when the rocks come up. Beginners should not be here on their own.
It is still quiet, though the Cadiz riders have found it, and from June to September the beach tourism and the pressure on the access are real. Spring and autumn you get the point with nobody on it.
Leave a wide berth around the castle islet, its rocks and the anchorage, because approaching them is prohibited, and the La Barrosa bathing buoys are not negotiable either.

Typical strength

12-25 knots with Poniente.

Best with Poniente from SW-W. Levante works only with extra care about tide and standing area.
Spring and autumn give you the point without people on it.

The quiver, in words

For a 75-85 kg rider, about 11-12 m at the 12-knot bottom of Poniente and 7-9 m when it pushes toward 25. Across the beach as a whole the working range is 8-13 m, with 7 m kept for the gusty days and 14 m plus for the light ones.Indicative: the range is quoted for Camposoto generally, not measured at the point.

Direction to shore

Best with Poniente from SW-W, side-onshore. N and NW blow colder and gustier. NE and E are offshore here and are the ones to refuse.SE occasionally works at the point itself. E, SE, S, SW, W and NW are all listed as navigable somewhere on this beach, but the exact shore angles per direction are unconfirmed.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

At low tide you can stand over a wide area off the point. The standing ground shrinks fast as the water fills, and the same low water that gives you the sand is what brings the rocks up. No measured map of the shallow area exists.

Tides

Critical. Ride the slack-water windows to stay out of the strong current in and near the channel, and take low tide for standing area if you are out in Levante.

Temperature

22.3°C summer · 15.4°C winter

Wetsuit

Gulf of Cadiz water runs about 22.3 C in summer and 15.4 C in winter: shorty or a thin suit once the summer wind is up, full suit in winter.

Currents

Strong currents run in the Sancti Petri channel and its approaches, and a loose board goes downtide quickly. The combination that works is a falling or low tide with wind from W, SW or S.

16–23°C water
The point is the south tip of Camposoto beach, straight opposite the Castillo de Sancti Petri. The old Roman causeway running from the castle toward Cadiz shelters it from Atlantic swell, so you can ride the channel and the water between the point and the castle.

Your level

Medium to high level. Not for beginners without supervision: the current and the low-tide rocks are what do the damage.

Rescue

No dedicated rescue or patrol for kiters was found. Going out through the marked summer channel is your own call, and in practice riders wait for about 13 knots and an easing current.

Launch

Sandy launch at the south tip of Camposoto by the Punta del Boqueron access, with free parking on the esplanade beside it. A summer entry and exit channel is marked next to the lifeguard post, but it sits badly for kiting, with weaker wind and little space.

Hazards riders report 10

  • strong tidal currents
  • exposed rocks at low tide
  • protected castle islet and boat anchorage restrictions
  • Strong tidal currents in and near the Sancti Petri channel.
  • Rocks exposed at low tide, especially when using Levante and lower water.
  • Protected Castillo de Sancti Petri islet and restricted-access rocks.
  • Boat anchorage/fondeo area near the castle.
  • La Barrosa swimming-area buoy lines must be respected.
  • NE and E are offshore at this point and blow you into the channel and out to sea.
  • A board lost in the current is gone fast; the channel mouth is downtide of the riding water.
Rules & access
2026: the Castillo de Sancti Petri islet is a protected area with restricted access. Approaching the islet rocks and the boat anchorage is prohibited, and the La Barrosa bathing buoys must be respected. In the bathing season kiting is barred along La Barrosa and Sancti Petri beach; the point stays usable and has a marked nautical channel for entering and leaving the water — the year of that summer closure is not stated in the sources found. Most summer days the point is reached by transfer boat from the port for about 5 EUR (2026).

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Time the session to slack water, not to the strongest hour on the forecast.
  • Walk the point at low tide and see where the rocks sit before you ride the castle side.
  • Park free on the esplanade beside the point access, following the Chiclana signs for the old fishing village of Sancti Petri.
  • Stay off the castle islet rocks, the anchorage and the La Barrosa swimming buoys.
  • In summer, use this as the Chiclana option only if the nautical channel is buoyed and marked; the channel itself kites badly, with weaker wind and no room.
  • In summer the simplest approach from the Chiclana side is the transfer boat from the port, about 5 EUR, since the beaches behind you are closed to kiting.
  • Refuse NE and E days here: they are offshore and the current is pointing the same way.
  • The thermal reinforcement usually comes in around 14:00; a morning session means taking whatever synoptic Poniente is already there.

Getting there

Airport

Jerez and Seville are the airports listed for the nearby Puerto Deportivo Sancti Petri. The best airport for Camposoto itself is unconfirmed.

Route

Two ways in. On foot from the San Fernando side: the Punta del Boqueron trail starts where the road from San Fernando to Camposoto beach ends, and there is free parking on the esplanade beside the point access, reached from Chiclana by following the signs for the old fishing village of Sancti Petri. On most summer days you can instead cross from the port by transfer boat for about 5 EUR, which is how riders on the Chiclana side get to the point.
