Kep Thmey is on Cambodia's Kampot coast, and the riding is now a private-island area in Kampong Bay reached by boat from Villa Vedici. The water is the reason to go: warm, shallow, mostly flat, with room to teach, to freeride, and to practise freestyle without hitting anyone.
Wind seasons
There are two wind seasons and the month boundaries do not agree between sources, so plan on the dry-season NE/E period around December-March/April and the wet-season W/SW period around June-October, and treat May, November and September/October as uncertain. Bokor Mountain sits behind the coast: it makes the forecasts under-read the beach and it makes some directions gusty.
Conditions and schools
Beginners get standing-depth water that is hard to beat here, but the current in the channels, the fishing gear and the offshore dry-season wind mean you want supervision or a self-rescue you trust. The scene is school-led rather than a kite resort, and Cambodia Kiteboarding is the one operation running the lessons, the rental, the supervision, the repairs and the boat.
Getting on the water

This is unusually forgiving water to learn on. Knee-to-waist deep for hundreds of metres, warm all year, no waves inside, and a plausible progression is water starts on day one and riding by day three.
