The spot

Ponta Zavora is a remote kite spot on the Inhambane coast, at Praia de Zavora about 27-28 km east of Inharrime and a long way south of Tofo. The riding is flat water plus small and medium waves on NE and SE trade wind, off a beach with a big launch and landing area.

Come as a self-sufficient freerider; skip it if you want someone watching the water, because no rescue service here is on record. The same coast is an exposed point break for surfing, and a reef running close and parallel to the shore makes a shallow pool that people snorkel and swim in.

Hazards and facilities

Sharks are reported at the break. It is not a developed kite-school beach: the only organised kiting that touches it is a Bilene-based trip that may include Zavora depending on the weather.

Water is warm, the lighthouse and lodge area gives you parking and food, and reef and rocks are yours to keep track of.

2026: no kite-specific permit or zoning was found for Ponta Zavora. Driving is strictly forbidden on most beaches in Mozambique, Zavora included, and allowed only in designated areas for launching a boat or sea vessel. Ask the authorities, the lodge management or a local who knows before you put wheels on sand.

Airport

Inhambane Airport (INH) is the nearest passenger airport, at 75 km direct; Maputo International Airport is a common self-drive gateway, about 416-420 km away by road.

Route

Zavora is about 27-28 km east of Inharrime in Inhambane Province, roughly 416 km and 6h40 from Maputo and about 112 km from Inhambane. Local roads and sandy tracks add time, most of all in the December-April rainy season.
