Three facts orient everything. The launch is 1.7 km from the OGG terminal by road - 730 m straight-line, about four minutes' drive - the shortest airport-to-water hop in the atlas. Second: you cannot ride before 11:00, and that is state law, not etiquette. HAR 13-256-130(e) bars launching from Kanaha Beach Park before 11:00 a.m., with a 9:00 exception only for windsurf instruction inside 300 feet of shore between swim zones A and B. Third: the beach is legally carved up - three surveyed swimming-only zones where no board may operate - so 'is Kanaha beginner-friendly' has two true answers depending which patch of water you mean. Logistics truth: the whole functional trip fits a 15-kilometre triangle. Airport 1.7 km, Maui Seaside Hotel 3.8 km, Maui Memorial Medical Center 6.5 km, Paia Inn 13.5 km. You still need a car at $60-120+/day because nothing moves kite gear on Maui transit, but you will barely use it for kiting. Mornings are structurally dead. The rule holds you to 11:00 and Kanaha Kai does not unlock until 10:00, so dawn belongs to Haleakala, Hana or a Costco run - not to a session. Best bases, by routed drive time. Maui Seaside in Kahului: seven minutes, confirmed AC, free wifi, a pool, Tante's Island Cuisine on site, no kitchens, and a standing 3-nights-plus deal of 20% off with a $40 F&B credit. The wind-maximiser's choice. Paia Inn at 93 Hana Highway: sixteen minutes out, buys a walkable town, AC and wifi in every room, full kitchens only in the 3-bedroom beach house and the partial-ocean-view suite. The Inn at Mama's Fish House on Poho Place is the splurge - next to Ho'okipa, furthest from Kanaha. What nobody tells you, part one: fly your bar, board and harness and rent kites. Kanaha Kai at 140 Hobron Ave prices kite-only at $30/day falling to $15/day past fifteen days, against $90/day for the full package falling to $75. Peak-season adjustment is disclosed for 1 June - 30 September. Part two: that shop closes at 16:00 while the wind is still on, and opens at 10:00. Day-to-day renters find out the hard way; multi-day tiers dodge it entirely. Part three: Ho'okipa is not merely discouraged. HAR 13-256-127 zones it four ways with a five-man and a ten-man surfing rule and a fishing-only zone. Go and watch, do not go and ride. Part four: the 2026 Aloha Classic is a twelve-day waiting period, 19-30 October, at Ho'okipa. North Shore lodging tightens across the back half of October, not into November as the older write-ups imply. The decisions you must make: Kahului's seven minutes or Paia's sixteen - roughly forty minutes of daily driving across a fortnight. June-August for reliable trades at peak island prices, or May and October for value and more variance. A lesson in the sanctioned instruction strip, or self-teaching in the tree-fluky main corner when west enters the direction. And buy insurance covering inter-island medevac: Maui Memorial, 6.5 km and eleven minutes away, is the island's only full ER, and serious trauma flies to Oahu. One honest caveat on the headline rule. The codified text says 'sailboard' throughout, compiled in 1994 off 1988 exhibits; the words kite and kiteboard appear nowhere in the Kanaha section, and 13-256-2(c) presumes unrestricted uses are allowed. Whether a later amendment closed that gap could not be established - DLNR's site refuses automated retrieval. Plan around 11:00 regardless. It is universal local practice and the enforcement culture is not ambiguous. Whether a citation would actually stick to a kiter is a question for a local moderator, not a rulebook.

• How frequent are car break-ins specifically at the Kanaha Beach Park lot in 2025-2026, as opposed to general Hawaii beach-parking folklore? Is there a pattern by time of day, and is the kite-corner gravel lot better or worse than the main park lot?
• What is a realistic rideshare fare and wait time from OGG arrivals to the Kanaha kite corner in peak season, and is it even reliably available for a 1.7 km trip?
• What kite sizes does the regular Kanaha crew actually rig across a typical June-August trade-wind day, and how much does that change between the 11:00 fill-in and the late-afternoon peak?
• Is there a live webcam pointed at the Kanaha kite corner that riders currently trust, and which wind station do locals actually check - the iwindsurf Kanaha reading or the PHOG airport METAR?
