When it fills in

No fill-in hour to wait for. The NE-E trade is a gradient wind that runs day and night, so what changes it is a front or a squall rather than the clock, and mornings are as likely to be on as afternoons. No local diurnal measurement exists.

Treasure Cay Beach is roughly 3 miles of white sand on the north side of Great Abaco, shallow turquoise water off the beach and a sandbar to the south-east where the flat water is.
The wind is the Bahamas trade wind, NE and E the directions you want, typically 15-25 knots, with the season running November to May; June to October is lighter and inside the tropical-storm window. There is a reef offshore and the shallows move with the tide, so look at the water before you rig.
Beginners and cruisers do fine on the main beach, which is wide and usually has more space than people. Windward Point nearby is a different spot: open chop, intermediate and up, and not to be confused with the main beach.
Nobody has confirmed a kite school or any rescue cover here; assume neither and stay within swimming distance of the sand.

fills in: No fill-in hour to wait for. The NE-E trade is a gradient wind that runs day and night, so what changes it is a front or a squall rather than the clock, and mornings are as likely to be on as afternoons. No local diurnal measurement exists.

Typical strength

15-25

Steady trade wind in winter and spring; summer is lighter.
Peak season is November to May, with lighter June-October winds and tropical-storm risk. Best wind is from NE and E. March and April are the pick of the season: the trade is still solid and there are fewer people on the island.

Thermal or synoptic

synoptic

The quiver, in words

For a 75-85 kg rider a 9 m and a 12 m cover the normal 15-25 kt trade wind. Add a 14 m or larger if you want the light summer days, and a 7 m for the top end of a strong winter front.Indicative for the Bahamas trade-wind season rather than measured at this beach, where no quiver reports exist.

Direction to shore

NE and E arrive onshore to cross-onshore on this north-facing strand. The three miles of sand curve round at both ends, so north, east and south winds have all been ridden here by choosing which end of the beach you walk to.

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Standing depth

Shallow along the beach and on the southeastern sandbar; how far out you can stand while riding is not documented.

Tides

The sandbars depend on tide. Low tide is the time for the Windward Point sandbar; a kite-specific tide window for the main beach is not documented.

Temperature

29°C summer · 24°C winter

Wetsuit

Boardshorts or a swimsuit most of the year; a shorty helps on the colder winter days.

Rules & access
2026: no official kitesurfing rule for Treasure Cay Beach is on record; ask at the resort community about beach or launch restrictions before you rig.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Go at low tide for the Windward Point sandbar; the main-beach sandbar has no documented kite window, so read it on the day.
  • Stay well off the offshore reef and leave room for the winter residents on the beach; December to April is when it has people on it.
  • Do not treat Windward Point as the main beach: it is open chop and not a learner spot.
  • Boardshorts do most of the year; a shorty covers the colder winter days.
  • Ask at the resort community about beach or launch restrictions; none were on record in 2026.
