No daily cycle to plan around. The wind is frontal, not thermal: it is either blowing at seven in the morning or it is not, and it holds or dies with the system rather than at a fixed hour. Whether settled summer afternoons add a usable sea breeze on top of a light gradient is unconfirmed for this beach.

The spot

Amager Strandpark is the easiest kite beach in Denmark to reach without a car: M2 metro from Copenhagen Airport, board bag and all. A 2 km artificial island sits off the original beach with a lagoon behind it; the lagoon is the flat water, the outer Øresund side is chop.

Wind and season

The wind is frontal, no thermal. NE through SE is what you want, onshore to side-onshore on the outer beach; westerlies come over the land gusty and offshore. April, May, September and October are the months, and from May to September you share the water with swimmers, SUPs and kayaks.

Rules and water temperature

The 2026 municipal rule allows kitesurfing year-round in the lagoon and outside the summer bathing zone, one straight pass through the zone on the way out to Øresund, and nothing at all on the Havheksen diving course.

Water is about 17 C in summer and 3.9 C in winter, so a wetsuit most of the year.

Launch locations and schools

Where the locals actually launch in 2026 is unconfirmed, southern beach by the club, lagoon edge or outer beach depending on wind, and the schools, Kitekollektivet and Frozen Palm Tree, often teach at Sydvestpynten or Cafe Sylten instead.

Frontal, so it is either on or it is nothing. Usable days sit roughly 14-25 knots, and easterlies coming off the open Oresund are steadier than the westerlies, which arrive over the whole city first. Nothing is measured on the beach: the nearest instrument, at the airport 4 km inland, averages 11 knots across the year with mean gusts near 28, and that is an indicative regional figure rather than a beach one.

The lagoon behind the artificial island is the shallow, stand-up side. On the outer Oresund beach it goes over your head quickly, which is the reason the local school sends beginners to Sydvestpynten instead. No measured depth or wading distance has been published for either side.

Rescue

No kite rescue. Copenhagen staffs lifeguards on the bathing beach through the summer season only, and they are there for swimmers; outside that season nobody is watching the water. Emergency services answer on 112.

Public beach-park launch on Amager. Kiters use the southernmost section of the beach, where the parking and the water-sports facilities sit, and move on to Ishoj when it is too busy. The lagoon side is the flat water, the outer beach the chop.

You may cross the bathing zone briefly and directly on the way out to the Oresund but not ride inside it, and once the buoys are lifted the zone opens too.

Nothing at all on the Havheksen diving course, a marked underwater course of reefs and fixed points open since 2007, and the municipality publishes a downloadable map of its boundary.
