- Read the tide table first, because the standing-depth areas move with the water level.
- Leave a wide buffer around swimmers, snorkelers, divers and the dive-boat channel.
- Do not count on rescue unless the operator confirms boat cover for that day.
- Carry more water and sun cover than you think you need; the summer air here is punishing.
- Read the Barka tide table first. Ordinary heights run 1.5-1.9 m and the standing areas move with them.
- Rig for light wind. The figure the local operation works to is 7-14 knots, not the 20-30 knots some trip listings quote.
- Book the base pack in advance if you want rescue cover; a retrieval without one is charged 35 OMR.
