Lomsesanden has no other spot on this map within 40 km of it. straight-line distance

Lomsesanden is a real kite beach on the Lista peninsula near Farsund, and one of the more popular of the Lista beaches on a stretch of coast that counts among the region's best for water kiting. Long sand, dunes behind it, and a campsite immediately off the beach, so you can sleep where you ride.
The water is shallow and mostly flat, the SW sector lines up roughly with the shoreline, and conditions are reliable April-October. The Lista Fyr station gives an annual average of 14 kt from the SSW, though there are no detailed statistics behind that station.
What is missing is everything local: no rescue arrangement on record, no tide guidance, no current information, no signed kite zone for Lomsesanden itself. Lista is nature-sensitive country and wind and water sports are prohibited outright inside the named bird-conservation areas, so read the signs before you rig.
Bring a full suit even in summer; the water sits around 15 C in the warm months and drops to 1 C in winter.

Typical strength

Nothing is measured at the launch. The exposed lighthouse station a few kilometres west has averaged 14 kt with gusts near 20 kt across 2007-2026, which is the closest indication of what the beach sees; Atlantic fronts push it well past that.

Reliable, exposed Lista wind. Gust and turbulence behaviour at the Lomsesanden launch itself is unconfirmed.
Lista is one of southern Norway's better kiting areas, mostly onshore, with several sandy kite beaches. Lomsesanden reportedly holds reliable conditions April-October. The Lista Fyr station gives an annual average of 14 kt from the SSW, with no detailed statistics behind it.

The quiver, in words

9-12 m covers the ordinary day for a 75-85 kg rider: 12 m around the 14 kt regional mean, 9 m once it settles into the high teens, 7-8 m when a front comes through. Indicative, derived from the nearby lighthouse statistics rather than from anything measured at this beach.

Direction to shore

Mostly onshore in the SW sector; the shore normal is about SW.

Dominant direction

modelled

A weather model's cell over this place, not a station on it. Good for comparing places, weaker for one beach.

Modelled from weather reanalysis on a 10–25 km grid (2022-2024), not a ground station: reliable for trade and synoptic winds, understates thermal sea breezes and valley winds. The typical daily max and the direction are columns of the table above, month by month. Highlighted months are the riding season from the spot record.

Hazards riders report 6

  • exposed open-coast peninsula - conditions can turn overpowered quickly
  • cold Norwegian sea water
  • Cold North Sea water even in summer.
  • Protected nature landscape and nearby bird conservation areas on Lista; kiting and wind/water sports are prohibited in some protected zones.
  • Exposed Lista weather can become strong quickly during Atlantic frontal systems.
  • Summer swimmers and camping guests share the beach.
Rules & access
2026: respect the Lista protected-area and bird-conservation restrictions. Wind and water sports are prohibited in the Bird Conservation Areas, which include Einarsneset, parts of Havika, Kviljoodden and Nordhasselvika including Bausje. Regional kitesurfing guidance for Lista names Husebysanden, Havik, Kviljosanden, Nesheimsanden, Markaområdet, Tjørveneset and Borhaug as the recommended launch beaches. Lomsesanden appears on neither that list nor the prohibited list, so it is not confirmed as an officially promoted kite launch, and no Lomsesanden-specific permit, ban or marked launch rule has been found.

Access rules drift faster than anything else we hold — check locally, and propose an edit if this has changed.

Rider tips

  • Check the beach signage and the current Lista protected-area maps before you rig.
  • Use the Lista Fyr and regional forecasts, then ask local riders whether the SW sector is actually clean at this launch today.
  • Bring a full wetsuit even in summer: the south-west coast stays cool.
  • Keep clear of swimmers and campsite beach traffic in July and August.
  • If the wind is wrong or the beach is full, compare Husebysanden, Havik and Kviljosanden/Nesheimsanden before you settle.
